PETALING JAYA: Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman says a police report will be lodged over allegations that a man posing as his assistant demanded a 30% commission from funds allocated for Chinese vernacular schools.

“I’ve asked my Muar office to lodge a police report so that the impersonator will be brought to justice,” he said in a statement today.

He was responding to reports by Chinese dailies which said a man claiming to be the aide to a lawmaker in Muar had requested for kickbacks.

Syed Saddiq, who is Muar MP, said investigations had shown that the man was not linked to his office.
He also thanked Sin Chew Daily and China Press for retracting their statements and amending the articles on the matter.

He said action would be taken against the man who had pretended to be his special officer.

The PPBM Youth chief also urged media outlets to check with him before publishing such news.

“Even though they did not name me, the constituency of Muar and I are already involved in the matter. Be fair in reporting.

“I entered politics to clean up politics. I will not forget this principle,” he said.
