KUALA LUMPUR: Entertainment outlets that are permitted to operate until 3am or 5am can keep their operation hours, but must not exceed the time stated in their licences.

Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad said that entertainment outlets must adhere to the terms of the licence given by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), or risked having it revoked.

"There are 672 entertainment outlets in Kuala Lumpur, and only 24 outlets close at 5am while 118 outlets close at 3am.

"These outlets are located at TREC, the city centre and Bukit Bintang areas.

"This is less than 200 outlets combined, and they must close their premises on time.

"For those with licences that allow them to operate until 2am, we will talk to the owners and hope that we can reach a consensus to close at 1am," he said during a press conference at Menara DBKL here after the fourth council meeting between DBKL and KL MPs on Tuesday (Jan 8).

StarMetro reported that a group representing over 100 entertainment outlets owners have urged Khalid and DBKL to reconsider the move after the Federal Territories Minister announced that all entertainment outlets must close at 1am.

"We received a lot of complaints of sound pollution from stakeholders located nearby these entertainment outlets.

"If these outlets were caught breaking the law, we will take action, which includes issuing them with warning letters, closing the premises for one week or one month, or have their licences revoked," he said.
