KUALA LUMPUR: Police have identified a suspect behind the gruesome case of a woman's body that was chopped up and stuffed into two luggage bags along Sungai Gombak near here.

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Shaharuddin Abdullah said that police were tracking down the suspect, who was caught on CCTV camera, loitering near the crime scene, reported Bernama.

"Based on CCTV footage, the suspect was seen dragging the suitcases before dumping them by the river near the crime scene," he said at the Dang Wangi Hari Raya open house on Friday (July 6) night.

He also urged the public to come forward if they have any information to assist in investigations.

Earlier Friday, City police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said that a gold-coloured necklace with Islamic religious writing was found among the dismembered body parts.

He said this could point to the victim being a Muslim but did not want to rule out anything yet.

"We have been able to determine the victim's gender who is a woman, either in her 30s or 40s.

"However, we do not know her nationality or who she is," he said during a press conference at city police headquarters.

The gruesome discovery was made at around 12pm Thursday (July 5) by a city council worker who was watering plants nearby and spotted a foot sticking out of the bag.

Comm Mazlan said the body parts were wrapped in three layers of plastic and bed sheets.

"The cause of death is a wound to the neck, most likely by a heavy and sharp weapon like a machete that was then used to hack the body into pieces.

"The killer must have realised the body was too big for a single bag so he must have chopped the body up to fit it into two bags," he said.

It is believed that one bag contained a torso while the other contained a head, arms and legs.

Police also found 11 and 14 pieces of clothing inside the two bags, which were located about 20.6m apart, respectively.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Asst Supt Faizal Abdullah at 012-4834439 or the nearest police station immediately.
