A total of eight people tested positive for drug abuse during a raid on four establishments in Kuala Lumpur on Friday night during the 45th “Banteras Aktiviti Haram” Operation (Ops Bah) carried out by the FT Ministry and the police.

Of 110 people screened, five males and three females tested positive for cocaine and ganja.

Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad said there might be a need to review existing laws so that they could be more effective in weeding out social ills.

“We will look into the laws that need to be amended based on what we have found through these operations. But we will need some time in gathering statistics and information.

“In the raids, we also found cases of drug abuse and foreigners without proper working permits.

“I urge the public to report any wrongdoings to the ministry,” he said during a press conference held at the first establishment that was raided.

Ops Bah started about four years ago during the BN-led government, and it is being continued by the Pakatan Harapan government.

During the raid, several compounds were issued to establishments for operating without a proper permit and for failing to display their operating licence.

About 50 bottles of counterfeit alcohol were also seized.

Khalid added that he did not expect the operation to have an immediate effect but would be able put these social ills under control.

“I hope people think twice before becoming involved in these unhealthy activity,” he said.
