Couple who brought daughter, 10, to illegal gambling centre in Rawang among 113 nabbed

RAWANG: The parents of a 10-year-old girl were among 113 people detained when police raided 10 illegal gambling centres here tonight.

The couple had brought their daughter along with them to one of the centres.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said those arrested included 72 gamblers and 41 employees of the centres operating in Jalan Bandar Rawang 3.

He said police also seized 208 slot machines, 73 gambling simulators and 63 coin machines, all of which were estimated to be worth about RM1 million.

Fuzi himself was present during the raid, which began at 8pm and took several hours, along with federal Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd and Selangor police chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor.

Fuzi said, since the a special operations centre for illegal gambling was established on July 20, police had received more than 100 tip-offs from around the country.

“As soon as we receive information, we carry out raids. We want to put a stop to such activities nationwide. This sort of activity can lead to all sorts of social ills,” he said. © New Straits Times Press
