PETALING JAYA: Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Amar Singh has described the warning by an Umno division chief to stop issuing statements on 1MDB, as noise from an “empty tin can”.

He said the warning by Seputeh Umno division chief Mohd Razlan Rafii holds no water as the court case was on SRC International Sdn Bhd funds, not 1MDB.

“I wouldn’t waste my time on him, nor pay heed to his statement as he’s got the whole ‘interim gag order’ wrong.

“Empty vessels make the most noise,” Amar told FMT.

Amar said Razlan is free to say anything he wants as long as it did not violate the country’s laws.

He further added that police would continue to carry out their work fairly without taking any sides.

“We are carrying out our duty without fear or favour and we do this professionally,” he said.

Amar was asked to comment on Razlan’s warning to Amar against issuing any statements related to the 1MDB probe to prevent former prime minister Najib Razak from undergoing a trial by media.

On Wednesday, Najib claimed trial at the Kuala Lumpur High Court to three charges of criminal breach of trust and a fourth charge of abuse of power involving SRC International Sdn Bhd’s funds totalling RM42 million. SRC International was a subsidiary of 1MDB.

During proceedings, the court issued an interim media gag order on discussion of the case against Najib.

On June 27, during a press conference at Menara KPJ, Amar had said RM116.7 million in cash was found in the 35 bags taken from premises linked to Najib last month.

Amar has been leading the investigation into 1MDB after Pakatan Harapan won the nation’s 14th general election on May 9.
