SHAH ALAM: Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli has been sentenced by a Sessions Court here to 30 months in jail for exposing confidential banking details relating to the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) scandal.

Former bank clerk Johari Mohamad, who was charged with abetting Rafizi, was also found guilty and sentenced to 30 months' imprisonment.

Sessions Court judge Zamri Bakar passed the sentence after finding both accused guilty at the end of the defence's case.

“After making a maximum evaluation, the court finds that the defence of the first and second accused failed to raise reasonable doubt.



“The two accused are found guilty and convicted of the charges,” he said Wednesday.

Zamri, however, allowed a stay of execution pending appeal and maintained bail at RM15,000 for each of the accused.

Rafizi was charged with having access to four customer profile documents pertaining to the balance summaries of NFCorp, National Meat and Livestock Sdn Bhd, Agroscience Industries Sdn Bhd, and NFCorp executive chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Salleh Ismail.


He was accused of exposing the said documents to a media consultant and journalist at the PKR headquarters at Merchant Square, Jalan Tropicana Selatan 1 on March 7, 2012.

He was charged under Section 97(1) of the Banking and Financial Institutions Act 1989 (Bafia) on secrecy.

Johari was accused of abetting Rafizi to commit the alleged offence at the same place and date.

DPPs Lailawati Ali dan Steve Chin appeared for the prosecution.

Rafizi was represented by lawyers Ahmad Nizam Hamid and Mohd Falihin Kamil Mohd Sazali while Johari was represented by lawyer Latheefa Koya.
