Former IGP Khalid appointed new Prasarana chairman

PETALING JAYA: Former inspector-general of police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar (pic) has been appointed the new Prasarana Malaysia Bhd group chairman, says Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

The Prime Minister also announced Khalid's appointment as Special Ambassador to enhance relations and cooperation with the international community in the fight against terrorism, extremism and human trafficking.

"The appointment is due to Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar's extensive experience and good relationship with international agencies throughout his term as the Inspector-General of Police in addressing the issues," said Najib in a statement on Tuesday.

Khalid's appointment comes after former chairman Tan Sri Ismail Adam's tenure ended on Aug 31.

"Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar will continue the mission and vision of Prasarana to build and provide world-class public transport services and increase the use of public transport," said Najib.

Najib, on behalf of the Government, also thanked Ismail for his contribution during his six-year tenure as Prasarana chairman.

Khalid officially retired as Inspector-General of Police on Monday, and was succeeded by 58-year-old former Special Branch director Datuk Seri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.

Khalid was appointed the 10th IGP, succeeding Tan Sri Ismail Omar, on May 17, 2013
