PETALING JAYA: The director of the movie The Malay Regiment will adhere to the Communications and Multimedia Minister’s request to remove a scene considered disparaging to DAP.
Datuk Jurey Latiff Rosli, who is the producer of the movie, said the scene was only in the trailer and not in the actual movie.
“We will abide by the minister’s request. I am very loyal to the country.
“Whatever is for the good of Malaysia, I will abide by it,” he said.
Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak (pic) reportedly told a news portal that he ordered the creators of the movie to remove the scene, which depicts a man standing near the Parliament House outside his car bearing the number plate “DAP165”.
DAP165 is considered to be a play on the word DAPIGS, a term commonly used to disparage the opposition party.
The minister said he found the scene to be inappropriate and ordered it to be removed.
Jurey said being a filmmaker, he felt certain scenes were very “subjective”, depending on those watching the movie.
Asked if there was a specific message behind the controversial scene, he said it was just a number plate.
“As artists, we have our ways of delivering our art.
“If you think it’s negative, it will be negative. If you think it’s positive, it will be positive,” Jurey said, adding that the movie was for all Malaysians.
The movie is set to hit theatres on Aug 31.
It tells the story of three children who want to learn about the sacrifices of their grandfathers, who served in the Malay Regiment against the communists in 1976.
