HONG KONG: A woman felt “violated” when a beautician pulled down her underpants, grabbed her breasts and made comments about her body, while another harassed her to sign up for more than HK$400,000 in extra beauty services, she told a court on Tuesday morning.
Pang Po-yin said Lee Kwai-ping, 26, and Zheng Rulian, 45, duped her into paying HK$24,036 for what she was told was a HK$900 facial treatment, and was forced to subscribe to a separate breast treatment worth some HK$75,984 when she visited the Kwun Tong branch of Shynne Beauty on February 26 last year.
Lee and Zheng both denied two joint counts of engaging in an aggressive commercial practice.
Pang said she went to the beauty shop to get lymph therapy. She said Lee told her to pay an extra $900 for a facial treatment.
Lee said the treatment had mostly been paid for by a previous customer who had moved overseas, Pang said, and that the HK$900 was the remaining balance.
And paying for the treatment would help the branch in an internal company competition for staff to win a trip to the Maldives.
Pang agreed to pay, and Lee took her credit card to process the payment. But when Lee returned, she gave Pang a bill to sign for HK$900 per month for two years, or HK$24,036, including add-ons.
Pang said she signed the bill reluctantly, thinking she could cancel the payment later.
As she was already receiving treatment, Pang was wearing paper underpants, and was covered by two towels.
When she appeared reluctant to pay up, Pang testified, Zheng lowered her underpants and pressed and commented on her breasts, causing her pain and embarrassment.
She told the court that she said at the time: “I feel violated.”
Zheng allegedly pulled down Pang’s underpants and commented on her hair removal procedure, which she got for free after paying for the facial treatment that day. And Lee talked about further breast treatment.
“When I resisted, she forcefully pressed my breasts,” she said, referring to Zheng, who carried out the treatment.
A tearful Pang also said Zheng commented on her breasts, saying that the treatment, which could enlarge her chest, “would be a gift for her and her boyfriend”.
Pang eventually paid an additional HK$75,984 for the treatment.
The trial continued at Kwun Tong Court before Deputy Magistrate Gary Chu Man-hon in the afternoon. - South China Morning Post
