PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has nabbed another big fish – a suspect with a "Datuk" title who is the acting chief executive officer of a government-linked company (GLC).
Also detained was the international sales manager of the same GLC.
The suspects, aged 58 and 36, were arrested under a sting operation dubbed Ops Guinea by a team of MACC officers at about noon on Thursday.
The Datuk was nabbed at his house in Tropicana Indah here, while the sales manager was arrested at his residence in Taman Desa, Jalan Klang Lama.
They are said to have been involved in corrupt practices and abuse of power in relation to an e-passport project of a country in the African region.
Sources said both suspects had solicited bribes between 2013 and 2015.
Bribes were allegedly sought from the owner of a private overseas-based firm.
It is learnt that the GLC signed a contract with that country for a 15-year period to prepare for the implementation of the e-passport facility.
