PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested a man in connection with the beating of a lorry driver by a group of individuals in the Puncak Athenaeum Condominium car park in Bukit Antarabangsa here last Saturday.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said although the case has been settled privately, he ordered his men to track down the group involved in the brawl.
"I have asked the Ampang district police chief to track them down, arrest them and put them in jail.
"We cannot let such things happen, as if there is no law in this country," he said.
Khalid advised those involved in the fight to surrender themselves at the Ampang police station, or be picked up by police.
"Come forward to assist in the investigation, or wait for us to knock on your doors. We know who you are," he said.
When asked if a 'Datuk' was connected to the case, Khalid said only the Datuk’s driver was involved.
He added that the lorry driver had lodged a police report on the incident.
A video recording of the fight, which went viral on social media, depicts several men beating up the lorry driver, who was lying on the ground, for several minutes.
Ampang Jaya Police chief ACP Hamzah Alias yesterday said the incident occurred at 2.15pm, apparently after a lorry driven by the 25-year-old victim was involved in an accident with a Mercedes Benz with four men in it.

KUALA LUMPUR: Two men were assaulted by at least four suspects in a scuffle caught on a smartphone camera which has since gone viral on social media since Saturday evening.
However, according to Ampang Jaya deputy district police chief Supt Mohd Zaid Hassan, the victim decided not to lodge a police report over the matter which took place at Puncak Athenaeum condominium in Bukit Antarabangsa.
Mohd Zaid said police received a report lodged by the security guard but not the victim or the alleged perpetrators.
"Initially, both parties had decided to settle the matter between themselves amicably, but since the security guard lodged a police report, we will initiate an investigation under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting," he said.
Mohd Zaid said the assault took place due to a misunderstanding arising from a minor accident between a one-ton lorry and a group of men which took place earlier.
In the 2 minute 49 second video, the victim in red could be seen defending himself helplessly as he was pinned to the ground and was repeatedly kicked and punched.
Another man, believed to be the victim's counterpart, was also seen being manhandled but fled from the condo.
"No arrest has been made till now. and we will screen the closed-circuit television camera (CCTV) footage to identify the assailants," he added.
