PETALING JAYA: Ng Eain Yow is on top of the world.
A determined Eain Yow ended Malaysia's 18-year wait for a title at the World Junior Squash Championships after beating Saadeldin Abouaish of Egypt on Thursday.
The 18-year-old, who is only the third Malaysian boy after Beng Hee and Ivan Yuen to reach the final, delivered a superb performance to beat Saadeldin 11-3, 9-11, 11-7, 11-5 in Bielsko-Biaa, Poland.
Eain Yow was only born when Ong Beng Hee won the world junior title in 1998. Ivan made it to the final in 2009.
It is a superb conclusion for the KL boy, who lost in the semi-finals last year and is competing in his last world juniors.
The win was extra sweet as Eain Yow also exacted revenge for his semi-final loss at the British Junior Open to Saadeldin in January.
"Eain Yow is simply amazing and the first set is probably the best he has ever played," said national junior coach Andrew Cross.
In the girls' event, world No.5 Nouran Gohar of Egypt defended her title after beating compatriot Rowan Reda 11-5, 11-6, 11-7.
