BUKIT MERTAJAM: The welfare home in Bukit Tengah here that is being investigated over allegations of child abuse and misconduct was not registered with the Welfare Department.

At the magistrate’s court here Monday, owner Khaw Choy Ping, 39, pleaded guilty to operating the unregistered Pusat Kebajikan Pertubuhan Penyayang Chi Yun welfare home on May 3 at 9.30am.

Magistrate Nurulrasyidah Mohd Akit fined her RM5,000 for the offence under Section5(1) of the Akta Pusat Jagaan 1993 and ordered that the home stop operating from July 18 until a valid registration is obtained.

Khaw paid the fine.


It was reported that a 14-year-old boy, who was under the care of the home, alleged that he and his other six siblings had been repeatedly abused at the home over the past four years since they moved in there.

On Saturday, his 45-year-old mother lodged a police report over the matter prompting authorities to move into action.
