Three reserve cops injured as mat rempit tries to escape roadblock in Penang

GEORGE TOWN: Three members of the Royal Malaysian Police Volunteer Reserve (SSPDRM) were injured after being hit by 'Mat Rempit' during an operation on road bullies at the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Highway, near The Light here, on Friday.
Northeast District police chief ACP Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said in the 4am incident, the suspects refused to stop his motorcycle during the roadblock operation and hit reserve police members, who one of them is woman.
"The incident occurred during an operation after the New Year celebration.
During the operation, a group of motorcyclists were stopped for inspection but suddenly one motorcyclist rammed into the SSPDRM members while attempting to escape from the roadblock operation," he said after visiting the SSPDRM members who received treatment at the Penang Hospital here today.
Mior Faridalathrash said one of them was Oon Beow Chong, 43, who is currently receiving treatment for a fracture in his left leg, right hand and injuries to his body.
Oon was however, reported to be in stable condition after undergoing surgery.
Another victim, Wan Norhushafarizan Md Husain, 30, injured her right leg, left knee and right hand, while Muhammad Rushdey Rosli, 23, sustained minor injuries.
Mior Faridalathrash said the motorcyclist and the pillion rider, both from Bayan Lepas, aged 19 and 21 were later arrested to facilitate investigations.
Initial investigations revealed that the motorcyclist was holding a L licence but was carrying a pillion rider which is against the law. - Bernama
