LUMUT: A physically-challenged 16-year-old boy was fitted with a 3D mechanical robotic forearm worth RM3,150 from Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Marine Engineering Technology (UniKL Mimet) here.
Wan Abdul Halim Wan Soor, who was born without a lower right forearm, could not contain his joy on receiving the robotic arm which featured elbow and finger movements.
"Finally, my dream of having a robotic arm is a reality and I can't wait to show it off to my friends," he told a press conference at UniKL Mimet's Dewan Kasturi here Thursday.
His mother, Rohaini Darus, 50, said she was overjoyed when her son received a call from a UniKL student informing him about the robotic arm contribution.

"Halim is an active boy despite his disabilities. We could not afford to get him a robotic arm, but now we hope he will have more grit and determination," she added.
The robotic forearm was invented by two electrical and marine electronic engineering students, Muhd Khirul Alif Muhammad, 29 and J. Kirupa Sankar, 25 under the supervision of Ahmad Makarimi Abdullah, 37. - Bernama
