KUALA LUMPUR, April 9 — More than 100 popular Bollywood actors and actresses, including Anil Kapoor and Bipasha Basu will attend the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards extravaganza from June 5 to 7, at Stadium Putra in Bukit Jalil.
It will be the second time Malaysia is chosen as the venue to host the event since 2002.
According to IIFA director Sabbas Joseph, after 13 years, it was the right time to bring back IIFA to Malaysia since the country was hosting its Year of Festival (MyFest 2015).
“Apart from that, Malaysians are among the biggest fans of Bollywood and Indian films...,” he told Bernama after the official announcement on IIFA here today.
Meanwhile, Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said more than 770,000 Indian tourists visited Malaysia last year, a growth of about 18.3 per cent as compared to 2013.
In his speech read by Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau chief executive officer Zulkefli Sharif, he said the event would complement the ministry’s initiatives to boost tourist arrivals during the MyFest 2015 celebration.
On the IIFA, Kapoor was delighted to hear that the event would be hosted in Malaysia this year.
“As a member of the Indian film fraternity, I have been a personal witness to the growth of IIFA into an iconic platform for Indian cinema and culture globally,” he said. — Bernama
