KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 16, 2015:

MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel said today he had instructed his lawyers to file court papers against the Registrar of Societies (RoS).
In a statement today, the beleaguered president said “though I had given a deadline of Tuesday, 17 February 2015 for RoS to withdraw all its directives, the announcement made by BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor today makes it unnecessary to wait until then”.
“I have instructed the lawyers to file the necessary court papers to challenge the decision and acts of RoS.”
It was earlier reported that Tengku Adnan had announced the proposal for a secretariat, comprising Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties, to be formed to run MIC pending fresh elections.
MIC deputy president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam had agreed to the secretariat being set up.
This was announced after a meeting was held this morning by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to discuss MIC’s crisis.
It was learned that Palanivel did not attend the meeting.
In reacting to the proposal, Palanivel, also in his statement, slammed it calling the suggestion “unacceptable”.
He claimed that BN had no jurisdiction whatsoever to take over the administration of MIC.
“They will be in direct contradiction to the provisions of the MIC constitution as well as the Societies Act, 1966.
“Though MIC is a component party within Barisan Nasional, MIC is still a political party in its own right and governed by the party’s constitution.
“Barisan Nasional should respect MIC’s constitution and not invade into the administration of MIC as proposed.”
As the president of the party, Palanivel said he was not going to allow BN to run the party.
“The deputy president of MIC may be willing to allow third parties to run MIC and lose our self dignity and respect, but I will not.
“We have our party constitution and relevant by-laws to run the party and conduct party elections if need be.
“Any other course of action as proposed would be illegal, null and void.”
Meanwhile, the Natural Resources and Environment Minister also slammed Dr Subramaniam for agreeing to the proposal.
“It is totally disgusting the extent that one can go to to further one’s political agenda,” Palanivel remarked.
