PETALING JAYA: Student activist Adam Adli and Jingga 13 head coordinator Fariz Musa have been released from police custody.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Tajuddin Md Isa said the two activists were released on police bail from the Jinjang central lockup at 11.20am, Sunday.
The duo were arrested under section 141 of the Penal Code for unlawful assembly at about 5.15pm on Saturday for participating in a rally in support of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim outside the Sogo Shopping Complex.
The 4pm rally had started with a lion dance show for the crowd of about 50 and continued with speeches from Adam, PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and Anwar’s daughter Nurul Nuha Anwar.
However, as the rally ended at around 5.15pm, a loud commotion was heard when Adam was arrested by several plainclothes officers.
A small shouting and shoving match ensued between supporters and police as Adam was driven to the Jinjang police central lockup.
An online news portal quoted Nik Nazmi as saying that Fariz was also detained by the police on the same day.
On Feb 10, Anwar, 67, lost his final appeal at the Federal Court against his sodomy conviction and five-year jail sentence.
The Opposition Leader was sentenced to five years’ jail on March 7 last year by the Court of Appeal for sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari, 30, at the Desa Damansara condominium in Bukit Damansara on June 26, 2008.
