JOHOR BARU: Kulai police have arrested an Ah Long who was in possession of 79 automated teller machine (ATM) cards belonging to different people which he used for collecting back his loans.
"The 46-year-old male was arrested in Senai, near Kulai, at 11pm on Feb 16," Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Sharif said in a press conference at the police headquarters here today.
The case is being investigated under Section 5(2) of the 2011 Amendment of 1951 Moneylenders Act which carries a fine from between RM250,000 to RM1million or a jail term of up to five years or both.
In another case, Mohd Mokhtar said, police seized a pistol in "Op Bersepadu" at Taman Johor Jaya on Feb 10.
He said a team of police officers ordered two suspicious-looking persons on a motorcycle to stop for a check.
They however sped off.
It is believed the pillion rider threw away an object along the roadside and police later found a semi-automatic pistol and seven bullets.
He said police had earlier received a firearms robbery case report and are confident of apprehending the two suspects soon.
At 4.25am on the same day, police nabbed three male suspects in Ulu Tiram, believed to be members of a gang involved in eight robbery cases in Johor Baru.
Police also recovered three notebooks, four cellphones, various house break-in tools and a car.
Police are investigating the case under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in jail or whipping or both, upon conviction.
Meanwhile, Mohd Mokhtar said people speaking out on various issues are free to do so as long as they keep within the limits of the law.
He said everyone could voice their unhappiness on stage but they must keep in mind provisions in the Sedition Act and Peaceful Assembly Act.
"All these laws are self-explanatory, speakers should know when it is time to stop making seditious statements," he said.
He added that he had instructed all district police chiefs to monitor all speakers closely take action against who violate the law.
Mohd Mokhtar was referring to a political assembly held in Seri Alam last week where the speakers allegedly made seditious statements.
He said police were still investigating the incident but declined to elaborate.
