The 87th Academy Awards ceremony is currently taking place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California. Hosted by Neil Patrick Harris for the first time, the Oscars presents awards in 24 categories.

The 87th Academy Awards ceremony is currently taking place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California. Hosted by Neil Patrick Harris for the first time, the Oscars presents awards in 24 categories.
Here’s what’s happened so far:



> The Best Picture Oscar goes to ... BIRDMAN!
> Both major acting awards shine a light on devastating diseases: Alzheimers (Still Alice) and ALS (The Theory Of Everything).
> Julianne Moore takes home first Best Actress Oscar for Still Alice after four nominations (Far From Heaven, The Hours, The End Of The Affair, Boogie Nights). "I read an article that says that winning an oscar will make you live five years longer. If that's true, I'd like to thank the Academy because my husband is younger than me," says Best Actress winner Moore with a laugh.


> Julianne Moore takes home first Best Actress Oscar for Still Alice!
> Best Actor Oscar goes to Eddie Redmayne for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking inThe Theory Of Everything! Truly deserving! "I'm fully aware I'm a lucky man. This Oscar belongs to people around the world battling ALS," says a surprised Redmayne.
> FYI, The current Batman gives an award to the director of Birdman :)
> Birdman's Alejandro González Iñárritu takes home Best Director!
> Oprah Winfrey high fives John Legend when he won the Best Original Song Award for Glory.
> Right before the major categories, let's look at the Oscar tally so far: Four for The Grand Budapest Hotel, three for Whiplash, two for Birdman and one each for American Sniper, Boyhood, Selma and Imitation Game.

The Imitation Game wins Best Adapted Screenplay.
Birdman picks up its second Oscar of the night for Best Original Screenplay.
> Nicole Kidman wears 100 carats of diamonds (rings, bracelet, studs) from Harry Winston!
> Who to appear next but Julie Andrews who played Maria in The Sound Of Music 50 years ago. She presents the award for Best Original Score to The Grand Budapest Hotel. New tally, The Grand Budapest Hotel has four trophies!
> How amazing is Lady Gaga's vocals? She performed a medley of songs from The Sound Of Music such as The Hills Are Alive, My Favourite Things, Edelweiss and Climb Every Mountain. The audience loves it ... and so did we in the office!
> The moment we have been waiting for - Lady Gaga performing songs fromThe Sound Of Music. Excuse us while we watch this segment!
> It looks like there's a trend the guys are following: blue tux with black lapel. Who wore it best - (from left) Eddie Redmayne, Ansel Elgort or Dwayne Johnson?
> John Travolta says it right this time, accurately pronouncing his co-presenter Idina Menzel's name, before giving away the Best Original Song. Glory wins Best Original Song, as expected. Common who performed Glory at the historical bridge in Selma, Alabama weeks ago, says after accepting the award: "This bridge was built on hope, welded by compassion and elevated with love."


> John Travolta says it right this time, accurately pronouncing his co-presenter Idina Menzel's name, before giving away the Best Original Song Oscar. Glory wins Best Original Song, as expected.



> Wait, what? The Academy missed Joan Rivers in the "In Memorian" segment? C'mon! 
> John Legend and Common join forces on inspiring number Glory, a Best Song nominee from the movie Selma.
> Aww how cute is this? Best Supporting Actor winner J.K. Simmons kisses wife Michelle Schumacher as the family looks on.





> "The subject of CitizenFour, Edward Snowden, could not be here tonight for some treason," says Neil Patrick Harris. Good pun!
CitizenFour wins Oscar for Best Documentray Feature. 
> Terrence Howard introduces three more Best Picture nominees: Whiplash, The Imitation Game and Selma.
> Meanwhile, Heidi Klum and Sia are already partying at the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party.
Whiplash nabs third Oscar for Best Film Editing. Whiplash ties with The Grand Budapest Hotel with three wins so far.
> Meryl Streep remembers Robin Williams, Richard Attenborough, Lauren Bacall, Maya Angelou, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, James Rebhorn and many more during the "In Memoriam" segment. Jennifer Hudson gives a moving performance of I Can't Let Go,remembering all their contributions.
> The Oscar tally so far: three for The Grand Budapest Hotel, two for Whiplash, one each for American Sniper, Boyhood and Birdman.
> Looks like gloves are in as Lady Gaga and Rita Ora are seen spotting them ... although Gaga's ones make her look like she's about to wash the dishes. 
Birdman picks up first Oscar for Best Cinematography! Emmanuel Lubezki becomes second cinematographer to win back-to-back honours. Last year, he won for Gravity. John Toll won the cinematography Oscar for Legends Of The Fall in 1994 andBraveheart the following year.
The Grand Budapest Hotel leads with three wins, picking up Achievement in Production Design.
Big Hero 6 takes home Best Animated Feature Film! Big Hero 6 director Don Hall's heartwarming acceptance speech: "Once upon a time there was a freckled face little boy who told his mom and dad he was gonna work in Disney one day. They believed in him and supported him. And he thanks them."
> The winner of the Oscar for best animated short is Feast
Interstellar wins Best Visual Effects beating out Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, Guardians Of The Galaxy and X-Men: Days Of Future Past.
> Rita Ora performs Best Song nominee, the inspirational anthem, Grateful, fromBeyond The Lights
> Neil Patrick Harris strips down to his tighty whities, all in the name of art. 
> Best Supporting Actress Oscar goes to Patricia Arquette for her role in Boyhood! "We have fought for everybody else's equal rights, it's our time to have wage equality once and for all and equal rights for women," Arquette says in her acceptance speech.
> That's two for Whiplash, two for The Grand Budapest Hotel and one for American Sniper so far.
American Sniper picks up its first Oscar for Achievement in Sound Editing.
Whiplash picks up the Oscar for Achievement in Sound Mixing.
> Do you like Scarlett Johansson's undercut?
> Neil Patrick Harris re-enacts a pivotal scene from Birdman ... with a surprise guest, Miles Tellar on drums! "Acting is a noble profession," says Harris in his tighty whities. Hilarious!
> Tim McGraw gives a heartfelt performance of country musician Glenn Campbell's I'm Not Gonna Miss You. Campbell wrote the song for his documentary I'll Be Me which documents his farewell tour and Campbell's deteriorating health due to Alzheimer's disease. This song won a Grammy awards two weeks ago.

> Best Documentary Short goes to Crisis Hotline
> The Oscar for Best Live Action Short goes to Britain's The Phone Call

Everything Is Awesome! Tegan And Sara together with The Lonely Island perform the theme song from The Lego Movie, another contender for Best Original Song. 
> Shirley MacLaine introduces the next three nominated films in the Best Picture category: BoyhoodBirdman and Theory Of Everything.
> Watch Maroon 5's performance of Lost Stars at the Academy Awards. 
> Poland's Ida wins Best Foreign Film Oscar. "How did I get here?" says the overwhelmed  irector Paweł Pawlikowski on his Best Foreign Film Oscar.
> Benedict Cumberbatch has started his own little party. 

The Grand Budapest Hotel leads win two wins, picking up their second Oscar for Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyling.
> Presenters take back gift bag worth US$168,000. Now, that's swaggy!
> The second Oscar of the night goes to The Grand Budapest Hotel for Achievement in Costume Design.
> Maroon 5 performs Lost Stars, from Begin Again, one of the nominees for Best Original Song.
> Liam Neeson is on stage to introduce two of the eight nominees of Best Picture: The Grand Budapest Hotel and Sniper.
> First up, Lupita Nyong'o presents the Best Supporting Actor award, and it goes to J.K. Simmons for Whiplash. Simmons puts family first in his acceptance speech, thanking his wife and children before adding: "If you have a mother and father, call them, don't text or email, and tell them that you love them."
> The 87th Academy Awards begins. With a musical of course, from Neil Patrick Harris, a Tony Awards winner himself. Helping him out is Anna Kendrick, Jack Black in the number Moving Pictures which pays tribute to the many classic films the industry has seen.

> Best Actress nominee (and former Oscars winner) Marion Cotillard picks French label Christian Dior for this year's ceremony. What do you think? Meh?
