SEBERANG JAYA, Feb 15, 2015:

Incarcerated opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s daughter Nurul Izzah claimed that her father would have become the Deputy Prime Minister after the 13th General Election if he did not reject an offer by Barisan Nasional (BN) on the condition he abandoned PKR’s allies PAS and DAP to join BN.
The offer, she claimed, was made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak during the Umno-PKR “consensus government” post-election talks in 2013 after the 13th GE.
The Lembah Pantai MP told a ceramah here that the offer was allegedly turned down by her father, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, when the condition was that he abandon its allies — DAP and PAS, and leave Pakatan Rakyat.
“But my father chose to reject the offer outright because he did not want to abandon his friends in PR,” Nurul told a crowd of about 1,000 at the Agro Expo Site here.

The rally is part of PKR’s national road show themed “Rakyat Hakim Negara” (“People Are The Nation’s Judges”) to show support and solidarity for Anwar, who has been jailed for five years since Feb 10 after the Federal Court overturned his sodomy case appeal and found him guilty.
“During the talks, the party  (PKR) and my father laid his conditions to Umno that greater efforts must be undertaken to clean up the federal government from rampant corruption.
“My father also pressed for Putrajaya to be pro-active in in upgrading the country’s education system and boost economy growth, among other things but the ‘consensus government’ talks did not work out as Putrajaya could not assure him (Anwar) his demands could be fulfilled hence his decision to reject the offer,” alleged Nurul, who is also a PKR vice-president.
A visibly emotional Nurul then went on to express how she and other siblings were proud of their father whom she described as a fighter who would never surrender to any form of political intimidation.
“My father has never misappropriated public funds, let alone abuse power and is not corrupt — he is a man of principles.
“We are proud to be his children,” added Nurul.
PKR president Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is Anwar’s wife, also addressed the crowd at the ceramah, echoing her daughter’s sentiments on Anwar.
Other speakers at the ceramah last night were DAP secretary-general and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, PAS deputy president and Penang chief Mohamad “Mat” Sabu, state PKR chief Datuk Mansor Othman and Deputy Chief Minister 1 Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon.
