Singaporean racer also co owner of Neverland Group of Nightclubs, photographer die in Malaysia car accident

Singaporeans drag racer Kwek Kon Chun and photographer Franco Toh were travelling in a luxury Porsche car which was believed to have skidded, crashed into the guardrail on the side of the road and overturned in the mishap early Sunday (Nov 9).

KUALA LUMPUR: Two Singaporeans - drag racer Kwek Kon Chun and professional photographer Franco Toh - were killed in a car accident while entering the city from Sepang near Desa Petaling early Sunday (Nov 9).
Kuala Lumpur staff officer for traffic investigation and regulation, DSP S Markandan, said the luxury Porsche 911 Turbo they were travelling in was believed to have skidded, crashed into the guardrail on the side of the road and overturned in the mishap which occurred at 2.45am. Mr Kwek, 35, and Mr Toh, 43, died at the scene, DSP S Markandan said in a statement.
Malaysian police said a 20-metre steel rail from the road divider had impaled the car through the driver's side, pinning Mr Kwek and his passenger Mr Toh. It is learnt that Mr Kwek used to participate in drag racing championship in Malaysia, including the Supercar Drag Race at the Sepang International Circuit. The bodies were taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for post mortem.
Mr Kwek is a nephew of Hong Leong Group's executive chairman Kwek Leng Beng. Mr Kwek Kon Chun is also a co-owner of the Neverland Group of nightclubs. A close friend of Mr Kwek Kon Chun of 10 years, who declined to be named, described him as "a passionate and down-to-earth guy who was always willing to help".
Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it is "aware of the unfortunate accident" and that its High Commission in Kuala Lumpur "is in touch with the local authorities, and will render the necessary consular assistance to the deceased's families."
