ISTANBUL: Pope Francis' health condition is reportedly still "critical" after suffering a prolonged respiratory crisis resembling asthma on Saturday morning, according to a Vatican statement.
The Vatican also said that the head of the Catholic church is not yet "free from danger."
"This morning, Pope Francis suffered from a prolonged respiratory problem that resembles asthma, requiring high levels of oxygen consumption," Anadolu Ajansi reported, citing a Vatican statement. Blood tests also showed that he had thrombocytopenia related to anaemia.
"For now, the prognosis is still uncertain," according to the statement.
