JOHOR BARU (Bernama): A Singaporean man with 116 outstanding traffic summonses issued against him since 2000 finally paid the fine amounting to RM28,000 after he was detained in an operation at Muzium Tokoh here, on Saturday (Sept 28).
The man, in his 60s, was among those detained in the three-day operation dubbed "Op Saman Tertunggak Warganegara Asing", which began at 6am on Friday (Sept 27).
The 10th series of the operation, which involved 116 personnel, was conducted at the Gelang Patah Rest and Service area, Iskandar Puteri and at Muzium Tokoh, Jalan Lingkaran Dalam.
Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department deputy director Senior Asst Comm Datuk Mohd Nadzri Hussain said that a total of 3,174 outstanding summonses were settled by 2,687 Singaporeans and 487 Malaysians in the operation.
"As of this morning, we managed to collect about RM611,000 in traffic fines and summonses at both locations.
"A total of 247,278 outstanding summonses were recorded since 2000,” he told reporters after observing the operation here on Sunday (Sept 29), adding that the collection was expected to reach RM750,000 by midnight.
Mohd Nadzri said traffic offenders could check the status of traffic summonses and make payments at two kiosks at the traffic division office of the Johor Baru Selatan police headquarters.
He said for Singaporeans, payments could also be made at 900 AXS machines available in the republic.
"Payments can also be made at the COPS traffic counter at all district police headquarters, and summonses can also be checked through the MyEg portal at www.myeg.com.my and rilek.com.my," he said.
Mohd Nazri said once the Vehicle Entry Permit came into force, traffic offenders from Singapore must first settle all their summonses before being allowed to return to the republic. - Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: A motorcyclist was flung into the air and suffered a broken hand when he crashed into the back of a car that was attempting to switch lanes.
City Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department deputy chief Supt Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said that the accident occurred on Friday (Sept 27) along Jalan Sg Besi.
He said that a Singaporean driver had tried to switch lanes abruptly on the highway, and caused the motorcyclist, who was unable to slow down, crash into the back of the car with his high-powered motorcycle.
The crash threw the motorcyclist in the air before he landed in front of the car.
"We have yet to receive a report from the motorcyclist, who had to be sent to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for treatment," Supt Sarifudin said on Sunday (Sept 29).
A video of the accident has been making its rounds on social media.
The 23-second video showed a white car suddenly changing lanes along the highway, as the driver attempted to take an exit on the far right lane.

PETALING JAYA: Selangor booked their berth in the Malaysia Cup semi-final in style after recording a 3-2 aggregate win over Perak in second leg of the quarter-finals at the Shah Alam Stadium.
The Red Giant's who were trailing to Perak 0-1 in the first leg played in Ipoh on Sept 22, got off to a barn-storming start as they beat the Seladang 3-1 in the return leg on Sunday (Sept 29).
Winger Syazwan Zainon started the ball rolling with his 33rd minute strike before forward Mohd Khyril Muhymeen Zambri hit a brace in the 45th and 68th minute to put the host in the driving seat in the tie.
Perak reduced the deficit in the 83rd minute through midfielder Brendan Gan's goal but it proved too late as
Selangor shored up the defence and held on to the win.
Selangor will take on Super League champions Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) in the semi-final.
The first leg of the semi-finals will be held on Oct 18,19,20 and the return leg is scheduled on Oct 25 and 26.

PETALING JAYA: Three marathon runners were injured, including one critically, after a car ploughed through safety barriers at the Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon 2019 on Sunday (Sept 29).
According to news portal FMT, an Ampang Jaya traffic police spokesman said that three runners were injured, one of whom had suffered critical injuries.
The spokesman said eye-witnesses had reported that the accident happened on the Kuala Lumpur Middle Ring Road (MRR2) heading towards Gombak.
According to a Facebook user, Onizuka Rizuan, one of the victims was his colleague and would be undergoing surgery.
Rizuan also posted several pictures of a vehicle number plate, allegedly of the "hit-and-run" driver.
He added that he would lodge a police report on the incident

PETALING JAYA: Police have identified the driver, who was allegedly involved in a "hit-and-run", at the Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon 2019 on Sunday (Sept 29).
Selangor Traffic Enforcement and Investigations Department chief Supt Azman Shariat said that the driver had used a rental car.
"Checks showed that the owner of the car had rented the vehicle to a rental company.
"The company records showed that it was being driven by a woman who the police are currently tracking down.
"She has yet to present herself to make a police report," he said when contacted.
He also urged those with information over the incident to contact investigating officer Insp Nur Nadzirah Abdul Rahim at 012-4401 093.
Supt Azman confirmed that two marathon runners were injured during the crash.
"One was injured in the leg and the other had cracked his hip bone. Both were sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment.
"At the time of the incident, the left lane was closed to vehicles for marathon runners. Cones with blinker lights were placed on both the left and right lanes of the road as well."
Earlier, it was reported that three runners were injured in the incident, one critically.
A car had crashed into runners at the marathon after it ploughed through safety barriers.
This was according to the Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon's official Facebook page, which also stated that the affected runners are currently receiving medical treatment.

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested a former state Director of Customs and two directors of a private limited company on Saturday (Sept 28) in relation to alleged corruption involving illegal logging, illegal mining and smuggling.
Its chief commissioner Latheefa Koya said the former state director was arrested at the Kelantan MACC office whereas the other two suspects were nabbed at a hotel in Genting Highlands.
A substantial amount of cash was also seized during the arrests.
“Upon the MACC’s application, the Kota Baru magistrates court has granted a five-day remand order against the suspects this morning, ” she said in a statement Sunday (Sept 29).
Latheefa added that MACC has also frozen the accounts of the said suspects, other individuals, and related entities, which in all, the accounts of 20 individuals and four entities have been frozen.
MACC recently announced that the anti-corruption body will be cracking down on corruption involving illegal logging, illegal mining and smuggling. - Bernama

MELBOURNE (Reuters) - Sunday morning shoppers in the New Zealand city of Auckland caught glimpses of the unexpected when a store's promotional screen played pornography over several hours.
The NZ Herald reported that sportswear retailer Asics stunned pedestrians as hackers played a pornographic video from the early morning until staff at the store turned it off at around 10 am.
A spokesman for Asics confirmed to Reuters that the screen above the store's entrance was hacked and apologised to those who saw the explicit content.
"Our Shortland Street store was subject to a cyber security breach," the spokesman told Reuters by email on Sunday.
"We are currently investigating the situation and working to mitigate it happening again in the future.
One witness, Tanya Lee, told the NZ Herald that she was on the way to breakfast with her 7-year-old son when she noticed the video.
"I took a second look because I just couldn't believe what I was seeing," Lee said.
"It's totally inappropriate and offensive, not something that you want kids exposed to and it's also embarrassing for Auckland as a tourist destination."
Police told Reuters that no report had been lodged in relation to the hacking.

IPOH, Sept 28 — Perak PKR chief Farhash Wafa Salvador accused Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Faizal Azumu of quietly and directly awarding concession for the maintenance of state roads to a company.
Farhash, who is also PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s political secretary, alleged that the concession was awarded to a company that had been given another contract under a different name.
“When the same concession was awarded to a company, Bujang Selenggara, there was plenty of controversy as it was done without going through a valid tender process.
“This time around, since the concession ended, the same company was renamed Puncak Emas Infra and was once again awarded the concession,” he said in a statement.
Farhash also said that the company has been given full power to appoint contractors and set prices as it wished.
“How come this concession was awarded via direct negotiations? It was clearly stated in Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) election manifesto that there would no longer be direct negotiations.
“Is the mentri besar truly representing the interests of PH and where were his advisors to ensure such negotiations did not take place,” he asked.
Farhash also claimed that a message social media recently highlighted these alleged abuses of power by the Perak Mentri Besar’s office.

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Mohd Khairul Adib Abd Rahman has been appointed as the new Public Service Department (PSD) director-general effective Oct 1, following the retirement of Tan Sri Borhan Dollah.
Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Ismail Bakar said the appointment was to replace Borhan who had retired on Sept 9.
Mohd Khairul, 57, graduated with a Bachelor of Science from University Kebangsaan Malaysia and a political science degree from Saitama University in Japan, said Ismail.
Ismail added that Mohd Khairul had served in public service for 31 years since he joined the civil service as the administrative and diplomatic officer in January 1988.
"He has vast experience in management and public service, and had also served as the secretary-general and the deputy secretary-general at the Transport Ministry. He was also the division secretary at the Education Ministry as well as the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (now known as Energy, Science, Technology, Environment, and Climate Change Ministry).
"He also served at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (now known as Water, Land and Natural Resources Ministry) and also worked as an Education and Training adviser in Tokyo, Japan as well as in London, United Kingdom," he said in a statement on Saturday (Sept 28).
Ismail said the government also thanked and expressed its gratitude to Borhan for his contributions to the nation as well as his service as the PSD director-general, especially in bringing change to the public services system.

PETALING JAYA: Zimbabwe’s central bank paid US$51 million (RM213 million) to Malaysia Airlines Bhd to lease three planes which were never used, documents presented before the country’s Public Accounts Committee have revealed.
The payment was part of US$971 million paid by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe without government approval, including US$840 million for agricultural supplies.
Appearing before the committee chaired by opposition leader and former finance minister Tendai Biti, the central bank’s deputy governor admitted to the violations of procedures.
“Mistakes were made,” Kupukile Mlambo told the Parliament, as quoted by Bloomberg.
It was reported earlier this month that the Zimbabwe government would take delivery of two Boeing aircraft from Malaysia Airlines after a long delay.
The B777-200(ER) jets are about 15 years old and were to be used by Zimbabwe Airways last year before the deal halted due to a payment dispute.
Zimbabwe Airways was set up by the government to support the struggling Air Zimbabwe, which was forced to cease operations in 2012.
One of the aircraft was flown to Zimbabwe but shipped back to Malaysia in May last year following failure to obtain an air operator certificate from Zimbabwe’s aviation authority.
“The national flag carrier, under reconstruction, could have taken delivery of the planes a little bit earlier had the deal not been choked by administrative challenges,” Transport Minister Joel Biggie Matiza told Zimbabwe’s The Herald.
“I sent a team to Malaysia headed by the permanent secretary to finalise the issue… The two aircraft are done; one should be released as soon as possible,” he added.
Since the downfall of the late Robert Mugabe in 2017, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has committed to calls for greater transparency, including to unravel financial scandals of the last three decades.

PETALING JAYA: Former Malaysian international footballer Datuk M. Chandran (pic) passed away peacefully at his residence in Ampang Jaya on Saturday (Sept 28). He was 77.
The legendary Malaysian and Selangor skipper, who led the country in many occasions, died at 7.30am surrounded by his family members.
Chandran, the son of a train engine driver with the then Malayan Railways, was born in Sungai Siput, Perak.
After moving to Selangor, he started playing football for the Selangor Indian Association (SIA).
He was first noticed by Datuk Harun Idris, the Selangor team manager, when he was with his employer then, Chartered Bank.
Chandran would grow into a strong and capable centreback for Selangor, earning many medals and trophies including the Malaysia Cup. He was part of an enviable line-up of some of Malaysia's most illustrious players of the past.
"At that time I played with footballers like Abdullah Nordin, Chow Chee Keong, Wong Choon Wah, and Dell Akbar Khan, and later with Soh Chin Aun, Santokh Singh, R. Arumugam and Mokhtar Dahari," he recounted in an interview with The Star in 2016.
In 1971, Malaysia topped the Olympic qualification group consisting of South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and the Philippines to qualify for the first time to 1972 Munich Olympics.
In 1974, Chandran retired from the national team and the following year from Selangor. As one door closed, another opened and Chandran moved into coaching.

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah have expressed their condolences over the passing of Sultan Ismail Petra, the father of Sultan Muhammad V of Kelantan on Saturday (Sept 28).
According to the statement issued by Istana Negara, The Majesties have extended their condolences to Sultan Muhammad V and the entire Kelantan royal family, and prayed that the soul of the 28th ruler of Kelantan be blessed by Allah and placed among the righteous.
"Their Majesties will depart for Kelantan to pay their last respects to the former Sultan. Al-Sultan Abdullah has also decreed for all flags in Pahang to be flown at half-mast for three days, starting tomorrow," the statement said.
Sultan Ismail Petra breathed his last at the Royal Ward of Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital this morning. He was 69.

JAKARTA: Hundreds of Indonesians gathered in several major centres across the archipelago Thursday (Sep 26) as authorities braced for more violent opposition to a major overhaul of the criminal code.
The unrest was sparked by a proposed Bill that includes dozens of law changes - from criminalising pre-marital sex and restricting sales of contraceptives, to making it illegal to insult the president.
Officials said Thursday hundreds of students were arrested after a night of street battles in downtown Jakarta between molotov-cocktail throwing protesters and riot police.
Police shot tear gas into crowds of mostly high schoolers in the centre of the capital, while a mass of students stormed and occupied the local parliament building in Padang city on Sumatra island.
Fresh rallies were expected Thursday as people began gathering in Jakarta and Sumatra's Aceh province.
The demonstrations across the Southeast Asian archipelago are among the biggest since mass street protests in 1998 brought down the three-decade Suharto dictatorship.
There has also been a backlash against a separate Bill that critics fear would dilute the powers of Indonesia's corruption-fighting agency - known as the KPK - including its ability to wire-tap graft suspects.
Police said more than 500 protesters were arrested following the Jakarta skirmishes on Wednesday that saw a police post set ablaze.
"Most have since been picked up (by relatives) and gone home," Jakarta police spokesman Argo Yuwono told reporters.
Some were still being held after police found knives and other sharp weapons in their possession, he added.
Students have issued a list of demands including scrapping some of the criminal-code changes, withdrawing troops from Indonesia's unrest-hit Papua region, and halting forest fires in Sumatra and Borneo that have unleashed toxic haze across Southeast Asia.
A vote on the criminal code Bill was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but President Joko Widodo has called for a delay in passing controversial changes that could affect millions of Indonesians, including gay and heterosexual couples who might face jail for having sex outside wedlock, or having an affair.
Updating Indonesia's Dutch colonial-era criminal code has been debated for decades and appeared set to pass in 2018 before momentum fizzled out.
A renewed push this year, backed by Islamic groups, was met with a wave of criticism over what many saw as a draconian law that invaded the bedrooms of a nation with some 260 million people - the fourth most populous on Earth.

Users are posting police-related memes and images on the social media platforms of Domino's Pizza Malaysia after one of its branch managers accused a customer of using a glitch in the company's online order system to buy its pizzas at cheaper prices.
The customer posted his harrowing experience on Facebook on Sept 22, saying that he was questioned by three police officers from the commercial crime unit at a Domino's outlet in Tangkak, Johor, for allegedly hacking Domino's ordering system so he could pay less.
The customer claimed he did not hack into the system but used legitimate vouchers which he had purchased from an e-commerce platform to discount the price. He had ordered 10 sets of one regular pizza, one personal pizza, one garlic bread and one icing dipping sauce.
The matter was settled at the outlet itself, as the police officers were satisfied with his explanation.
In his Facebook post, he claimed that he had been a loyal customer but will no longer order from the company.
His post was shared over 2,000 times on Facebook with most users expressing disappointment at Domino's.
The matter was made worse when Domino's issued a statement, which now has been deleted, claiming it has detected "irregularities" in its order database and reminded customers not to use vouchers offered by unverified sellers.
Some users have jokingly said an order of Domino's may now come with a side of a police report while others are sharing images of handcuffs and police cars on Domino's Facebook page.
On Twitter, some users are asking @DominosMY if their order will come with a visit from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) while others are reminding the rest to be careful when using vouchers.
Domino's issued a public apology on Facebook on Sept 26 and explained that it has sorted out the issue with the affected customer.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 — The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) today said that the death of Major Mohd Zahir Armaya — who was killed during a demonstration at Lok Kawi Camp in Sabah on September 4 — has been classified as a training accident.
In a statement today, the MAF said the decision was made by the department’s investigation board based on its findings following an internal inquiry.
“The investigation board also found that the equipment used during the training was in good condition.
“TDM will take appropriate disciplinary action against individuals involved in the training accident, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) will be revised if needed,” the statement said, using the Malay initials of the MAF.
The MAF said Mohd Zahir will receive a posthumous promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel by the 578th Army Armed Forces Council which is subject to the approval of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
“Mohd Zahir’s family welfare will also be given due attention and the department will ensure they receive all appropriate assistance and benefits,” the MAF said.
Mohd Zahir, 36, a commando of the 11th Special Forces Regiment, died after being shot during a demonstration in conjunction with the launch of the 5th Infantry Division and the 13th Infantry Brigade.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 — Nor Fadhilah Mohd Ali, the first female Group Chief Financial Officer (GCFO) at Telekom Malaysia has tendered her resignation. She was appointed as the CFO in May 2017 and she was recently awarded the Best CFO in Malaysia at the Alpha South East Asia 9th Annual Institution Awards for Corporates.
According to the announcement made via Bursa Malaysia, she is leaving to pursue other opportunities. Nor Fadhilah is a Chartered Accountant with the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and has more than 20 years of relevant experience in strategy and finance.
TM has also announced the appointment of Razidan Ghazalli as the new Chief Financial Officer which will take effect on November 1, 2019. Ghazali was a formerly with Celcom Malaysia for nine years covering various portfolio which include finance and marketing, internal audit, finance operations, planning and development and business development. SHAH ALAM, Sept 27 — Housing and Local Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin said her ministry will leave firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim’s case to the police, following a coroner’s finding that his death last year was caused by two or more unknown individuals.
Zuraida, whose ministry oversees the Fire and Rescue Department, said both her ministry and Malaysians were thankful that a decision was reached in Adib’s inquest.
“I am also very satisfied as we have used all channels that we can use, including asking for an inquest to be held for Adib’s case,” she told reporters when met outside the court complex here after the inquest findings were delivered.
Noting that the coroner found that criminal act was involved in Adib’s case after 41 days of inquest, Zuraida said: “So we leave it to the police for the next action.”
She said she hoped that Adib’s family would feel that they have been properly represented as his case had been investigated as best as possible for the best possible findings.
Despite repeated pleas from the media for them to quieten so Zuraida could be heard, a rowdy group of men insisted on disrupting the interview with loud cries of “Takbir Allah”, “Tangkap Pembunuh” (Catch the killer) and “Undur Zuraida” that drowned out the minister’s voice.
Umno supreme council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam was later spotted with the group.
Earlier, Zuraida also told reporters she hoped Malaysians would accept the decision.
“Do not let this be politicised, do not bring religious and racial issues. This was an issue of a Malaysian who died on duty,” she had said.
Zuraida said Adib’s family felt grateful that his case has been brought to justice, noting that she had met his brother and aunt and will be meeting the father who is coming today from Kedah.
Zainal Abidin Nong Chik, president of the union for the peninsula’s Fire and Rescue Department personnel, expressed gratitude for all lawyers, non-governmental organisations and government agencies for their work towards today’s inquest findings in the union’s favour.
He told reporters that around 20 of the union’s committee members and 50 retired fire and rescue personnel had come to the Shah Alam court complex today.
Coroner Rofiah Mohamad delivered her findings at 10am here, concluding that Adib’s death was caused by two or more unknown individuals.
The inquest was held for 41 days during the February 11 to July 24 period where 30 witnesses and 137 exhibits were examined.
An inquest is usually held when the cause of death is unknown, as was the situation in Adib’s case where conflicting claims or theories regarding his death had been put forward.
Adib, 24, died at the National Heart Institute on December 17, 2018, after succumbing to serious injuries.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 27 — Low-cost airline Malindo Air said the recent data breach affecting the personal data of its customers has been fully contained.
Its chief executive officer Captain Mushafiz Mustafa Bakri also said the matter has been reported to the police here and in India, after findings revealed two former employees of Malindo’s e-commerce services provider GoQuo (M) Sdn Bhd improperly accessed and stole the data from its development centre in India.
“We wish to reiterate that this incident is not related to the security of our data architecture or that of our cloud provider Amazon Web Services.
“All Malindo Air systems are fully secured and none of the payment details of customers were compromised due to the malicious act,” he said in a statement.
Mushafiz said as a proactive measure, data forensics and cyber security experts have been brought in to review Malindo Air’s existing data infrastructure and processes.
“We have been working closely with all relevant agencies including the Malaysian Personal Data Protection Commissioners, the National Cyber Security Agency, as well as their counterparts abroad.
“Malindo has also initiated auto-reset of all customer passwords and would like to caution our customers to be wary of any suspicious and unsolicited calls and/or emails,” he said, adding that those who require further assistance can reach out to the airline.
The breach, which occurred last week, exposed information including customers’ full names, contact numbers, email addresses, and even their passport numbers with expiration dates. The data was uploaded in an open Amazon web services bucket.
It was reported that the data dump had also been shared on other platforms, including instant messaging service Telegram, and cloud storage and file hosting services such as openload.cc and mega.nz.

SINGAPORE (ANN): A quality assurance engineer who molested a stewardess on board a Singapore-bound Scoot flight from Cochin, India, was sentenced on Friday (Sept 27) to four months' jail.
Indian national Vijayan Mathan Gopal, 39, who was working in Singapore, has since lost his job.
Reeking of alcohol when he boarded the flight in November 2017, the Singapore permanent resident had outraged the woman's modesty by touching her buttock, placing his hand on her right thigh and cupping her face with his hands.
After a trial, District Judge Salina Ishak found him guilty of three molestation charges last month. He committed these offences between 4am and 8.14am on Nov 2,2017.
In sentencing Vijayan on Friday, the judge said that air travel is "a high-pressure environment", with no ready means of escape for the molest victim.
She, however, noted that "no intrusion of private parts" was involved in the case.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Jane Lim had earlier said in her submissions that following take-off, Vijayan had an argument with another crew member, as he had refused to pay after ordering food and red wine.
DPP Lim said it was the carrier's policy to collect payment before heating up its passengers' orders.
The stewardess, who cannot be named due to a gag order, stepped in to defuse the situation and agreed to serve Vijayan his order before he paid for it.
Despite this, he continued to demand her attention by repeatedly pressing the call light even though she had to attend to another passenger who was feeling faint at the time.
Her colleague tried to attend to Vijayan but he insisted on talking to "that female steward".
The DPP said: "According to the victim, the situation was 'very urgent' because there was a medical emergency that required her to page for medical assistance... and a drunk passenger that required her attention.
"After a nurse came forward to assist in the medical emergency, the victim attended to the accused.
"She knelt down to be at his eye level, placed her arm on the arm rest and told the accused firmly not to press the call light again."
The court heard that Vijayan then told the woman that she was "so beautiful" and molested her.
The stewardess told the plane captain about what happened and asked him to alert the airport police. She later submitted a report to Scoot about the incident.
During the trial, Vijayan, who is represented by lawyers Ramesh Selvaraj and Nicholas Kam, denied molesting the woman.
Instead, he claimed that she had fabricated the whole incident to suppress his complaint against her colleague about the "poor service" he had received.
In mitigation, Ramesh told Judge Salina that their client's case involved "mostly fleeting touches".
He also said Vijayan had worked in Singapore since 2004 and this was his first brush with the law.
Ramesh added that his client intends to appeal against the conviction, and Vijayan was then offered bail of $15,000 (RM45,475).
For each count of molestation, he could have been jailed for up to two years and fined or caned. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network

THE tallest residential tower in the country will be built in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur.
The mixed development project, IBN Bukit Bintang, will consist of 339 smart homes and 268 five-star hotel rooms, with the build-up ranging from 434sq ft to 1,052sq ft. The 68-storey building will stand over 330m in height.
It is a joint venture between developer IBN Corp and landowner KKH Pavilion Development Sdn Bhd.
At the opening ceremony of its sales gallery in Jalan Berangan in Kuala Lumpur, IBN Corp Ltd director Datuk Seri Michael Yang said a good developer must have “an artistic eye, a scientific mind and a scholarly heart”.
“We, as a developer focused on real estate tourism, have our own vision and mission to be successful.
“My formula is that a good project must be designed with aesthetic elements, using the best technology and prioritising the needs of the occupants.“
Thanking all for the support to start this project, Yang added, “I hope your support will continue until its completion to promote the project to the world, as we want to bring in more international tourists to Malaysia.”
IBN Bukit Bintang development director Megat Khalil Izzuddin Shah said the event marked the beginning of another iconic project in the city centre.
“Prices start from RM2,000 per sq ft, which is low compared to other properties in the Golden Triangle. I would say it is the best deal, ” he said.

He also said IBN Corp had expressed interest in embarking on a corporate social responsibility effort to beautify, upgrade and maintain the surrounding infrastructure around the project area at Jalan Berangan.

SHAH ALAM: Fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim's death has been ruled as death that was caused by two or more persons unknown, the Coroner's Court ruled on Friday (Sept 27).
Coroner judge Rofiah Mohamad read her judgement after 41 days of inquest proceeding.
"The blunt chest trauma (on Adib) is not caused by himself (perbuatan sendiri) or (an) accident but a criminal act by two or more persons unknown," said the coroner.
The verdicts that could have been reached by the Coroner's Court were an open verdict, a verdict of misadventure, or death by persons or persons unknown.
The handling officer for the inquest was Faten Hadni Khairuddin, while the Housing and Local Government Ministry and the Fire and Rescue Department were represented by senior federal counsels Suzana Atan, Mazlifah Ayob, Fadzilatul Isma Ahmad Rafngah, and federal counsel Afiq Zainal Abidin.
Among those representing Adib's family were lawyers Syazlin Mansor and Mohd Kamaruzaman A. Wahab.
Also present in court were Adib's family members, including his brother Mohd Ashraf and his fiancee Nurul Najihah Mohd Radzi.
Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin, Subang Jaya Fire Station chief Syed Shahril Anuar Syed Sulaiman and Adib's fellow firemen from the station were also present.
The inquest – which sought to determine the events leading to Adib receiving fatal injuries on the early morning of Nov 27,2018 – saw 30 witnesses being called to give their statements.
Adib, 24, became critically injured after he and his team members from the Subang Jaya fire station responded to an emergency call at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple where a riot was taking place.
The fireman was taken to SJMC after he was found injured, before being transferred to the National Heart Institute (IJN) for further treatment, where he later died on Dec 17, at 9.41pm.

PETALING JAYA: All 26 commercial banks in Malaysia have decided to drop the charges for certain cash and cheque transactions for credit card and financing repayments, just two days after widespread public uproar.
The charges were initially RM2 per transaction over the counter, and 50 sen for payments made using cash deposit machines and cheque deposit machines.
In a statement yesterday, the Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) said its member banks would stop charging the fees.
Some had already begun imposing the charges while others planned to implement them soon.
“Currently, certain customer segments are already waived these charges, which are disabled persons and senior citizens.
“For walk-in customers, there are available free and convenient alternatives to conduct banking transactions and obtain services as provided via automated teller machines (ATMs),” it said.
ABM added that its member banks would be communicating with their customers via their respective communication touch points, including their websites, and were ready to assist their customers to familiarise themselves with these alternative channels or on any queries they might have in relation to this matter.
Non-government organisations and consumer groups previously said this would have forced consumers to fork out extra to pay their loan instalments and credit card bills and would only profit the banks.
Since 2015, cheques in general already have a 50 sen processing fee imposed and Bank Negara had said in 2017 that this would be increased to RM1 from January 2021 and gradually thereafter, to reflect the actual cost of cheque processing.
Back in 2016, the cost incurred by banks to process a single cheque is RM4 and this is estimated to be about RM6 by next year.
In 2018, the volume of cheque payments declined 14.79% to 101.4 million from 2017.
Bank Negara requires commercial banks to channel cheque fees collected to the e-Payment Incentive Fund (ePIF), which serves to incentivise the adoption of e-payment, in line with the central bank’s aim to move towards a cashless society.
The rate at which the fees are to be put into ePIF depends on the banks’ fulfilment of a set of e-payment prerequisites.
The fees collected are channelled back to customers mainly through the introduction of fee waiver for e-payments.
This led to the waiver of the 50 sen charge for Instant Interbank Fund Transfer (IBFT) beginning July last year.
Coupled with the charges incurred by banks to process the cheques, most would barely break even with the cheque fees imposed.
There are banks, such as Standard Chartered, that do not impose charges for credit card and financing repayments, be it over the counter or through deposit machines.
Commenting on the latest development, National Union of Bank Employees secretary J. Solomon said it was welcomed and banks must stop any form of fees charged for deposits or any transactions made over the counter.
“It’s the fundamental right of the customers to use the services of the bank employees for counter services and the banks cannot impose a fee on the customers for that.
“It’s also the duty and obligation of the bank as custodian of the customers’ funds to give the best service to customers with no charge over the counter,” he said.
Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations (Fomca) chief executive officer Datuk Paul Selvaraj said the move would alleviate the burden on consumers.
He said focus should be placed on financial education and literacy to help consumers move towards the digital age rather than punishing them.
“Consumers should be vigilant to fight when they feel injustice has been done.
“We will monitor this continuously,” he said.

Bekas pemain dram kumpulan Search, Yazit Ahmad, menghembuskan nafas terakhir jam 11.53 pagi tadi di Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL). Difahamkan jam 11.46 pagi.
Berita itu disahkan oleh rakan baiknya, Ashaari Mohd Nasir menerusi kenyataan yang dihantar kepada media.
Selasa lalu, Allahyarham Yazit dimasukkan ke HKL kira-kira jam 3.45 pagi selepas mengadu sesak nafas di rumahnya di Taman Melati, Kuala Lumpur.
Sebelum ini arwah pernah dimasukkan ke hospital sama pada 3 September lalu akibat masalah pernafasan tetapi dibenarkan keluar dua hari selepas itu.
Arwah meninggalkan isteri, Ramlah Ahmad, 59, dan tiga anak iaitu Razilah, 38, Shahmirnuri, 34, dan Shafiqa Nurlis, 29.
Jenazah akan dibawa ke Masjid Salehuddin Al Ayubi Taman Melati untuk solat jenazah dan akan dikebumikan di Tanah Perkuburan Islam Raudathul Sakinah, Taman Selasih selepas Zohor.

His role in the controversial case had allowed political rivals to cast aspersions against him and his party over what is effectively the sale of citizenships to foreigners, which some have called treason.
The Penang-based criminal lawyer applied to the Sessions Court today to withdraw from representing Datuk Lai Chin Wah in the case effective today.
“I want to stress that I am not intimidated by any threats towards me personally on my involvement as a defence lawyer in this case but I do not want this to be used by irresponsible parties to make false allegations against DAP, the Pakatan Harapan government and other Pakatan Harapan leaders,” he said.
He said he made his decision after careful consideration.
Rayer also explained that he had been appointed as Lai’s defence lawyer on September 18 by the businessman’s family.
“My presence in court as his lawyer on September 18 has led to other political parties to question my appointment as a defence lawyer in this case,” he said in a statement today.
He stressed that there was no conflict of interest in him defending Lai despite being a lawmaker with the PH government.
Rayer argued that he was not prohibited by law from representing any accused person in court and added that Lai has not been convicted of any crime.
The Malaysian Bar previously defended Rayer’s representation of Lai, saying any accused person was constitutionally entitled to a sound legal defence regardless of his charges.
Lai was one of six individuals, including an assistant director from Penang National Registration Department, who were faced with a total 32 charges of selling forged MyKad and Malaysian birth certificates to foreigners.
Lai is facing three charges under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 for selling a forged Malaysian birth certificate, MyKad and passport to foreign national, Ewe Chor Beng.
He was also charged with abetting National Registration Department assistant director, Mohd Faizul Arifin, to forge the Malaysian birth certificate and MyKad for Ewe Chor Beng.

According to Bukit Aman’s Special Branch Counter-terrorism Division (E8) principle assistant director, Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, the arrests were made in separate operations nationwide.
He told a press conference this morning that the local suspect belonged to a group of 11 Malaysian and Indonesian suspects detained here in the capital, Sarawak, Penang, Pahang, Johor and Selangor.
“They are mostly involved in social media recruiting Indonesians and Malaysians to spread the Daesh ideology and had also planned future attacks in Malaysia and Indonesia.
“One of the Malaysians from the same group planned to stage attacks on politicians and non-Muslim groups here apparently for making negative comments towards Islam, suppressing the faith, and for insulting the Malays,” said Ayob.
Two more Malaysians arrested in Sabah were responsible for spreading Islamic State (Daesh) propaganda and managed the movements of eventual suicide bombers.
The duo also arranged for funds to be channelled to the Maute terrorist group in southern Philippines.
“Both of them had helped arrange the path for a couple and their three children who carried out suicide bombing attacks at a church in Jolo, South Philippines, last December,” he said.
Ayob explained that the counter terrorism operations spanned from July 10 to yesterday, resulting in the arrests of three Malaysians, 12 Indonesians and one Indian national.
One of the Indonesians was arrested from Keningau, Sabah, facilitated and assisted other terrorism sympathisers’ travels from Indonesia through Sabah and into the southern Philippines to carry out attacks there.
“Most of the Indonesians are employed in the labour industry, where some have been here for two to three years before they were arrested,” he said.
Ayob added the Indian national was a 38-year-old woman who was a member of the Sikh For Justice group and was arrested in Subang Jaya. They later determined she was responsible for raising and channelling funds back to the group.
He said the arrests were a result of cross border cooperation between the Royal Malaysia Police, the Indonesian National Police, and Philippines National Police.
Ayub said all the arrests except for the Indian national invoked the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012.
The Indian woman was arrested under the Immigration Act and is in the process of being deported to her home country.

KUALA LUMPUR: An executive director of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), who is currently at large, went behind his boss's back by signing an agreement between 1MDB and Good Star Ltd, involving a US$700mil (RM2.93bil) loan repayment.
The High Court heard from former 1MDB CEO Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi, 49, that he had never permitted Tang Keng Chee, or Casey Tang, to sign any agreements with Good Star, a company that belonged to fugitive financier Low Taek Jho.
The witness, who was being questioned conducted by lead prosecutor Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram, said this when he was referred to an investment management agreement between Good Star and 1MDB dated Sept 29,2009.
"This document involved Good Star and 1MDB but I never knew about this and I had never ordered Casey to sign any agreements with Good Star.
"Casey was only given the mandate to manage Foreign Exchange Transaction with Deutsche Bank (Malaysia) Bhd for a US$1bil (RM4.18bil) transaction through a director's circular resolution (DCR) dated Sept 26,2009," he said.
The witness also confirmed that for as long as he was the CEO of 1MDB, there was never a business transaction conducted with Good Star.
"I confirmed that this agreement was never presented in any of the board of directors meetings.
"I have never received or seen this document before this," he added.
The witness said he later realised that Low had handed over the fake investment management agreement, which was signed by Tang, to a private banking company RBS Coutts.
Najib, 66, faces 25 charges in total – four for abuse of power that allegedly brought him financial benefit to the tune of RM2.3bil; and 21 for money laundering involving the same amount of money.
He faces imprisonment of up to 20 years and a fine of up to five times the sum or value of the gratification or RM10,000, whichever is higher, if found guilty.
Shahrol will continue his testimony before Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah on Wednesday (Sept 25).

BEIJING, China (AFP): A futuristic airport that resembles a giant starfish opened in Beijing Wednesday (Sept 25), as China unveils another massive infrastructure project just days before it celebrates 70 years of Communist Party rule.
Located 46km south of Tiananmen Square, the Beijing Daxing International Airport will operate at full capacity in 2040, with eight runways and the potential to receive 100 million passengers per year.
The airport was opened by President Xi Jinping, but had an immediate hitch when its maiden commercial flight – an A380 superjumbo heading to the southern city of Guangzhou – was delayed by nearly 30 minutes.
State broadcaster CCTV, which offered a live coverage of the first flight, offered no explanation for the delay.
Beijing Daxing – with the airport code PKX – is seen as an embodiment of the "Chinese dream" Xi has offered his fellow citizens.
Teething problems
Both foreign and domestic carriers have plans to move their operations to the new airport, and British Airways, Cathay Pacific and Finnair have already announced new routes to tap into the potential of the modern aviation hub.
"Switching airports can be a complex decision for airlines," said aviation analyst John Strickland.
"Airlines would prefer to see a new airport open and overcome teething problems before moving services from another well tried and tested airport."
The SkyTeam alliance – which includes Delta, Air France and Dutch airline KLM – was also expected to move, along with local partners Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines.
But when contacted by AFP last week, Delta and Air France said the decision whether to move airports had not yet been made.
The third largest Chinese airline, Air China, is expected to keep flying the bulk of its flights from Beijing Capital International Airport.
Soaring growth
At 700,000 sq m – about the size of 100 football pitches – the new structure will be one of the world's largest airport terminals.
The building was designed by Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid, who died in 2016.
Inside, it stands out for its flowing, curved lines and use of natural light that filters down to the lowest levels of the building through openings on the roof.
Underneath the terminal is a train station and metro line that will allow travellers to reach the city centre in 20 minutes.
The project cost 120 billion yuan (RM70.56bil), or 400 billion yuan (RM235.2bil) if rail and road links are included.
At full capacity, Daxing would be the world's largest single terminal in terms of traveller capacity, according to its designers.
Atlanta airport in the United States – the world's busiest airport – can receive more than 100 million passengers, but across two terminals.
The current Beijing Capital International Airport – the world's second largest – is already overflowing, with just over 100 million passengers annually.
"Daxing is an extension of the phenomenal growth of the aviation market in China," said Shukor Yusof, head of Malaysia-based aviation consultancy Endau Analytics.
Air transport is booming in China as living standards increase along with peoples' desire to travel.
It is expected to surpass the US to become the world's biggest aviation market by the mid-2020s, according to the International Air Transport Association.
By 2037 the country will have 1.6 billion plane journeys each year – a billion more than in 2017, the organisation estimates. – AFP
