KUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor Immigration Department detained 100 illegal immigrants during an operation that was carried out in the early hours of the morning in Petaling Jaya.
Those arrested were aged between one and 50.
They comprised 94 Indonesians (40 men, 46 women, five boys and three girls), two Pakistani men and Cambodian woman, and two men from India.
In a statement today, Selangor immigration director Mohamad Shukri Nawi said the operation, which involved 76 immigration officers and personnel, including four officers from the Selangor National Registration Department, was conducted based on public complaints and intelligence.
“The operation started at 12.45am and ended at 2.30am at the Jalan Mawar housing area in Kampung Sungai Kayu Ara, Petaling Jaya.
“We carried out checks on 180 foreigners but detained 100 of them for various immigration offences,” he said.
He added that most of those arrested were fast asleep and the raiding teams had to repeatedly knock on their doors before gaining entrance to the premises, he said.
Shukri said they were taken to the Immigration Department’s Enforcement Division Office and would later be held at the Semenyih Immigration Depot for further action.

Malaysia Film Festival returns on March 30 after delay
Nam Ron’s film, One Two Jaga, which looks into corruption in the police department, was named the Best Film at this year’s Malaysia Film Festival (FFM).
The film’s star Rosdeen Suboh was also named Best Actor, while Nam Ron nabbed the Best Director award.
It won a total of six awards including Most Original Story, Best Poster and Best Screenplay.
“It wasn’t easy to come up with film’s story, what more writing it,” said Nam Ron, who is one of three writers behind the screenplay.
Two other films that made an impact were Guang and Dukun, with four wins each.
Guang won Kyo Chen the Best New Actor and Quek Shio Chuan the Best New Director accolades.
FFM, regarded as Malaysia’s Oscars, saw 42 films competing in 27 categories including Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director and Best Film. FFM-30 was held at Plenary Hall, Putrajaya International Convention Centre, last night (March 30).
One of the unsurprising wins of the night was Syamsul Yusof’s Munafik 2, which was named the Box Office Film, a special category to award film with highest box office earnings. The horror flick earned an impressive RM43mil, making it the highest grossing local film. Munafik 2 holds the record for highest earning on its sneak preview (RM2.05mil), highest opening weekend (RM5.2mil), and earning RM21.6mil in just four days.

Datin Seri Umie Aida.
Meanwhile Datin Seri Umie Aida received the Best Actress award, for her role as Diana Dahlan in Dukun. The movie was released after a 12-year wait.
”This win is for all the actresses who play strong women in movies. I hope more films will continue to showcase and elevate the role of women,” said Umie.
It was reported that Umie went to great lengths to prepare for the role. In the Dain Said’s film, she plays a seductive shaman who lands in jail for the death of a businessman after a ritual she performed didn’t go as planned. Filmed in 2006, it is loosely based on Mona Fandey who was found guilty for the murder of Datuk Mazlan Idris in 1993, and was executed in 2001.
FFM is organised by Finas, Ministry of Communications And Multimedia and 11 film bodies. FFM-30 was expected to be held at the end of last year, but was delayed as the Finas board of directors were not appointed in time.Read more at https://www.star2.com/entertainment/2019/03/31/one-two-jaga-wins-best-film/#YvRXMD4EOVeHoB3L.99
Huawei's P30 Will Slowly Kill the need to carry DSLR Cameras | 50x Zoom!
A master of photography: Huawei's P30 Pro put to the test
Saturday, 30 Mar 20191:00 PM MYT

The "P" in Huawei's new P30 Pro is all about photography. With a four-lens camera hitting an insane ISO value of 409600, this phone is shaping up to be the top choice for anyone who wants the best possible smartphone photographs.
Four cameras, 5x optical zoom, enormous light output and an ISO value of 409600 – Huawei's P30 Pro is anything but ordinary. Huawei has created a phone that just gets better and better the more you try it out.
The P series phones all tend to focus on photography. The main competitors in this field include the iPhone XS and perhaps the Nokia 9 – so Huawei has decided to answer this by including an entirely new camera.
The new 40 megapixel camera has a different sensor: instead of the usual red, green and blue (RGB) sensor pixels, it has yellow instead of green pixels. This is how, according to Huawei, they achieve that fantastic ISO value of 409600.
In practice, this is hard to prove or disprove. But, it's pretty clear that the P30 Pro is able to take high-quality pictures in low light situations. Even in almost complete darkness, the P30 can find colours and details where other smartphone cameras might only show black, grey or noise.

That doesn't mean that the P30 Pro can take perfect pictures in the dark – but it does mean that things can and probably will change in mobile photography.
Aside from the main camera, there's a 20 megapixel wide angle camera and a 5x telephoto lens that is so thick, it's been placed at a 90 degree angle, with the light entering via a prism.
Then there is the so-called time-of-flight-camera, which isn't actually a camera that takes pictures, but one that measures the time it takes for the light to arrive at the sensor, thus allowing for extremely accurate spatial measurements.
This combination of cameras offers users a lot of possibilities: From portraits to panoramic views and extremely detailed images, everything is possible. The zoom is particularly impressive, as it really is possible to zoom in around 5x without losing any quality of the picture. Other phones in the same price range can only achieve 2x zoom.
The cameras are so good due to a combination of optical stabilisation and software support, that the P30 Pro is able to eliminate blurriness and other mistakes. The software gives the images an extra something, and gets the absolute most out of every picture.
Another improvement over the P20 Pro are the colours in photographs: in the older model the colours sometimes seemed almost unrealistically bright, whereas now the colour settings have been adjusted to appear more natural.
Next to the incredibly impressive camera set up, the rest of the phone seems almost average. The hardware is pretty much the same as what's inside the Mate 30: a Kirin 980 processor, either 128 or 256GB of storage and 8GB of memory. The 6.47in OLED display has a Full HD resolution and a fingerprint sensor under the screen. All this is very high-end – but nothing new by now.
On the front of the phone, there's a very minimal teardrop-shaped notch for the front camera. This makes for a relatively unobtrusive cutout from the display, but the notch's small size also means that no 3D face recognition is possible, only a less secure version via the camera.
Alongside the P30 Pro there's a slightly smaller P30 version with a 6.1in display, a slightly smaller storage capacity, a smaller battery and only three cameras. There's likely also going to be an even cheaper Lite model soon, although Huawei hasn't provided any details yet.
Huawei's new P30 is available for €750 (RM3,439) for the 128GB model, around €1,000 (RM4,586) for the Pro with 128GB and €1,100 (RM5,045) for the Pro with 256GB. They will go on sale on April 5. – dpa

51 year old teacher lost RM113,000 in phone scam
Teacher conned of RM80k in phone scam
Sunday, 31 Mar 201911:56 AM MYT
KUANTAN (Bernama): A teacher at a residential school here got duped into parting with RM33,000 of her savings and the RM80,000 from a loan she obtained from a bank after talking on the phone with one “Inspector Narita”.
Pahang Commercial Crime Investigation chief Supt Mohd Wazir Mohd Yusuf said all in all the 51-year-old woman lost RM113,000.
He said it all started on Feb 28 when a “bank officer from Kuala Lumpur” called her to say that she was suspected of being involved in money-laundering acitivities to the tune of RM1.5mil.
However, the "bank officer" said an “Inspector Narita” could help her to settle the problem.
Chief Supt Mohd Wazir said the teacher became frightened and followed all the instructions from ‘Inspector Narita” and parted with her money.
The teacher lodged a police report on Friday (March 30) after finding out that she had fallen for a scam.
The syndicate targets vulnerable people and gets them to part with their money using a slick modus operandi , whereby the culprits claim they are people in authority who can help their victims get out of difficulties with the law. – Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court today struck out Umno’s suit to reclaim RM116.7 million allegedly belonging to the party that was seized in police raids of properties linked to the party’s former president Datuk Seri Najib Razak last year.
Judge Datuk Nik Hasmat Nik Mohamad made the decision after allowing a striking out application by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and the government.
The suit was struck out with RM7,000 costs.
Senior federal counsel S.Narkunavathy, who acted for PDRM and the government, said this when met outside the court after the proceedings in chambers.
She said the court had allowed their application on grounds that the plaintiff (Umno) had no reasonable cause of action to commence the legal action and the party has no locus standi to file the suit against the defendants.
“The decision was made on grounds that they have not shown their locus and the suit was vexatious, an abuse of the court’s process and scandalous.
“The suit was struck out with RM7,000 in costs,” she added.
Meanwhile, Umno’s lawyer Datuk Hariharan Tara Singh said he had informed the judge that he would appeal against the court’s decision.
On Sept 21 last year, Umno’s public officer Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh filed the suit on behalf of the party naming Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) deputy director (Intelligence and operations) Datuk Mohd Sakri Arifin; then CCID Assistant Commissioner R. Rajagopal; then CCID director Datuk Seri Amar Singh, Inspector-General of Police and the Government as defendants.
In the statement of claim, Umno alleged that on May 17 last year, Mohd Sakri had conducted search and seizure on the premises with a raiding team from the PDRM and on May 25 the same year, Amar Singh announced that among others, RM114 million cash was seized by the team from the premises.
The party further contended that during another press conference on June 28, Amar Singh announced that the amount seized was RM116.7 million and not RM114 million.
Umno claimed that the search and seizure of the alleged items was illegal, unlawful and a violation of its rights under the Federal Constitution.
It also claimed that the search and seizure was conducted arbitrarily without reasonable suspicion.
Umno stated that the defendants had breached their statutory duty for having acted in such a manner against the party without any reasonable cause and with malice, intentionally to injure and cause maximum damage to Umno.
Among others, Umno sought for the defendants to disclose the list of items seized in the raids and a declaration that the search and seizure conducted on May 17 was illegal.
It had also sought an order for the return of the sum of RM116.7 million to Umno as well as an order for the return of the RM43.3 million being the difference between RM160 million and RM116.7 million to Umno.

Adib’s ribs were broken ‘in a straight line’, inquest told
Forensic expert: Adib’s injuries highly unusual
NATION
Saturday, 30 Mar 2019
SHAH ALAM (Bernama): A forensic expert shared that it was the first time he had seen such a “unique” injury, where left ribs number one to seven were broken in a straight vertical line.
Kuala Lumpur Hospital’s Forensic Medicine Department chief Datuk Dr Mohd Shah Mahmood (pic) told the Coroner’s Court in the inquest into the death of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim that the injury was detected during the post-mortem on Dec 18 last year.
He said the pattern showed that it might have been caused by a thin and blunt object.
“During the post-mortem, we found that the victim had fractured his left ribs and the injury was unique,” the 27th witness said in reply to conducting officer Hamdan Hamzah.
He said the unique injury was not detected during the clinical examination of the victim at the National Heart Institute (IJN) intensive care unit on Nov 30.
He also said that on Dec 22 last year, his team was called to assist police in reconstructing the incident at the scene, during which they had found six possibilities that might have caused the fractures on the ribs.
Dr Mohd Shah said two possibilities involved Muhammad Adib being hit by the left and right rear corners of the Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) vehicle and another four possibilities involved him being hit by the two ladders at the back of the vehicle.
He said his team then found that the left front door of the Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) van, which Muhammad Adib had travelled in, had a thin and vertical corner which was about two millimetres wide.
“At that point, we realised that it could be the thin and blunt object, which was consistent with the unique injury on his left ribs, which were broken in a straight vertical line,” he said.
Dr Mohd Shah said the injury patterns showed that it was unlikely that Muhammad Adib was crushed (between the FRT vehicle and the EMRS van) as the injuries would have been greater.
He also said there were no injuries on the victim’s arms and legs to indicate that he had defended himself from being assaulted.
Muhammad Adib, 24, was a member of the Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Station’s EMRS unit. He was seriously injured during a riot incident at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ 25, Subang Jaya, on Nov 27 last year.
He succumbed to his injuries at IJN on Dec 17. — Bernama

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s got talent! Homegrown female vocal group “Nama” and “Human Calculator” Yaashwin Sarawanan have made it to the finals of Asia’s Got Talent (AGT) Season Three.
“We didn’t expect it but we aimed for it,” said Nama group member Nur Fazrina Mohd Ani, 28, about reaching the finals.
Last night’s episode of the talent competition saw Nama being chosen as the Judges’ Pick – a unanimous decision made by the show’s three judges, David Foster, Anggun and Jay Park, to send a contestant straight to the finals.
Nama – comprising Nur Fazrina; Noor Syamimi Makhetar, 24; Norfazira Malik, 24; and Nur Farahida Dolhadi, 24 – first met through an arts festival at Universiti Malaya and formed the group in 2017.
Nama has been working hard for their upcoming performance, rehearsing four to five times each week, for two to three hours each session.
“What we can promise is the performance will be meaningful and different from what we have done during the earlier rounds in terms of song choice, what we are going to wear and our vibes,” Fazrina teased.
Should the girls win, they hope to use the US$100,000 (RM407,500) grand prize to further the group’s music career.
“We will use it to produce our singles, and when the time is right, our own album,” Fazrina said, adding that they hoped to celebrate by going on a holiday together.

Yaashwin winning the audience over with his math skills.
Meanwhile, 15-year-old Yaashwin, whose speedy calculations earned him the nickname “Human Calculator”, won the hearts of the public, garnering enough votes to send him to the finals.
“I was super-shocked and speechless when I got to know that I would be performing at the grand final,” the SMK Bandar Tun Hussein Onn (2) student said.
“This is a golden opportunity. I want to thank all my supporters, especially my fellow Malaysians who have been voting for me. I want to make my country proud.”
With Nama and Yaashwin taking two out of nine spots in the finals, this season marks Malaysia’s strongest showing at the AGT finals yet.
In Season Two, Sobhi Shaker – a Syrian magician who came to Malaysia to escape the Syrian civil war – was the first contestant competing under the Malaysian banner to make it to the finals.
You can vote for Malaysian contestants Nama and Yaashwin by visiting www.AXN-Asia.com/AGTVote.
Watch the final performance show on April 4 and the final results show on April 11 on AXN (Astro Ch 701).

SHAH ALAM: A police station head and a Fire and Rescue Department officer have been charged at the Sessions Court here on Friday (March 29) for accepting bribes and assisting in setting up an illegal massage parlour.
Mohd Alfian Mohd Zainal 34, the Kajang police station chief, was charged with two counts under Section 165 of the Penal Code for receiving a total of RM1,000 in bribes from Wong Cheng Keong on Sept 27 and Oct 25 in 2015.
The charge under Section 165 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term up to two years, or with a fine, or both.
Alfian pleaded not guilty.
She set mention for the case on April 30 and ordered Alfian to present himself once a month at the nearest Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office.
MACC prosecutor Michael Joimin had earlier offered RM10,000 bail for each charge.
However, Alfian's lawyer Muhammad Hidir Mustafa raised an objection against Joimin's proposal, saying that his client had been cooperative to the MACC since he was arrested on March 13, 2017.
Hidir also pointed out that Alfian was married with four kids aged nine, six, three and one.
Meanwhile, Shah Kamil Ghani, 35, a grade KB19 officer from the Fire and Rescue Department, was slapped with three counts of graft involving RM2,000 under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009.
He was accused of receiving RM1,000 and RM500 on March 30, 2016, and RM500 on April 1, 2016, as kickbacks from Wong in assisting the massage parlour in obtaining support letter from the Fire and Rescue Department over an application for a business licence.
Shah Kamil pleaded not guilty.
If found guilty, Shah Kamil can be jailed up to 20 years, a fine not less than five times the amount of the bribe, or RM10,000, whichever is higher.
Alfian and Shah Kamil were both arrested on March 13, 2017.
Rofiah set bail at RM21,000 with a surety, ordered Shah Kamil to surrender his international passport and set April 29 as the case mention date.
At the same time, Rofiah also issued a warrant of arrest against a local town council officer for failing to attend the hearing on Friday (March 29).
The unnamed officer did not attend the hearing, despite being informed by the investigating officer and have promised to attend.

Golf club debacle: Senseless to impose your values on others, Negri MB told
Friday, 29 Mar 20192:21 PM MYT

SEREMBAN: Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun should also resign as Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar following his decision to step down as Seremban International Golf Club (SIGC) president after club members voted to overturn the management's decision to stop the sale of alcohol, says his predecessor.
Former Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said Aminuddin's reason to step down as club president because he was in charge of the state Islamic affairs portfolio did not make sense.
"You must not forget that the members of the club, which was set up in the 1950s, are multiracial.
"The last thing you should do is impose your values on others. Even the Al Quran says so," he said, adding that Aminuddin should remember that he was MB for all races and not just the Muslims in the state.
"I do not drink alcohol, and I would have imposed a state-wide ban if I could.
"But I need to be sensitive to the needs and rights of non-Muslims who live here," he said, adding that Aminuddin should have known that SIGC was a private club where beer was only sold and served in a designated area.
He said Aminuddin was merely seeking cheap publicity by resigning as SIGC president.
Last week, Aminuddin had threatened to reign after SIGC members requisitioned an extraordinary meeting to overturn the ban on the sale of beer at the club imposed last August.
They claimed the decision which was also against the club's constitution and was made without the consent of the members.
The majority of members at the EGM on Sunday then voted against the ban, and
Aminuddin resigned the following day.
Among other things, Aminuddin said he could not be president of the club if it continued selling beer because the course was located in an area where almost all the residents were Muslims.
In response, Mohamad said based on Aminuddin's reasoning, the MB should also shut down several establishments which sold and served beer located just metres away from his official residence.
On another matter, he appealed to punters not to take bets on the outcome of the Rantau by-election to be held on April 13.
"I am told that punters are taking bets that I will win with a 3,000-vote majority.
"Please do not do so as some voters who place their bets would decide against voting for me," Mohamad added.

KAJANG: Three Indonesian maids fled to safety after alleging abuse by their employer, a Tan Sri.
The three are believed to have run away from a bungalow in Country Heights with the help of a man who took them to the Indonesian embassy to seek assistance.
“Embassy officials made a report on March 22 regarding the abuse," said Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof in a statement released on Friday (March 29).
"The three victims, aged between 25 to 41, had worked with their employer for seven years, four years and six months respectively.
"All three claimed they were punched and slapped, as well as had their pay and passports withheld,” he said.
ACP Ahmad Dzaffir added that the three victims escaped by climbing the fence of their employer's house and was later assisted by an unknown man who brought them to the Indonesian embassy.
“Investigations at the scene led to the seizure of two passports and an i-card belonging to the victims that were held by the suspect’s secretary.
"Medical checks on the victims showed no signs of physical injuries. The same checks also showed no signs of sexual or mental abuse on the victims,” he said.
ACP Ahmad Dzaffir added that the victims had been sent to a safe house after an interim protection order was granted by the Magistrate Court.

Solskjaer named permanent Manchester United manager
Thursday, 28 Mar 20195:16 PM MYT
LONDON (Reuters): Manchester United have appointed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as their permanent manager on a three-year contract, the Premier League club said on Thursday (March 28).
The 46-year-old Norwegian has guided United to 14 wins in 19 matches in all competitions as caretaker boss since replacing the sacked Jose Mourinho in December 2018.
"From the first day I arrived, I felt at home at this special club," Solskjaer said in a statement on United's website.
"It was an honour to be a Manchester United player, and then to start my coaching career here.
Several members of the first-team squad, including record signing Paul Pogba, have praised Solskjaer for restoring the confidence and freedom the team lacked towards the end of Mourinho's tenure.
"More than just performances and results, Ole brings a wealth of experience, both as a player and as a coach, coupled with a desire to give young players their chance and a deep understanding of the culture of the club," said Ed Woodward, United's executive vice chairman.
"This all means that he is the right person to take Manchester United forward. I want to thank Ole and the coaching team for everything they have done so far and congratulate him on this richly deserved appointment."

Lopsided contracts a norm in the Malaysian entertainment industry
Sharifah Amani: Lopsided contracts a norm in the Malaysian entertainment industry

KLANG: The Malaysian film industry is in danger of sinking and the government has been urged to come up with laws to protect artistes and those who work in the entertainment industry.
On of the reasons is that the current environment prevents local artistes, producers, directors and filming crew from giving their best.
Actress Sharifah Amani Syed Zainal Rashid Al-Yahya (pic) said that the local movie and drama industry had many talented people were stifled having to deal with bread-and-butter issues.
Without mincing her words, she said that artistes were struggling to make ends meet because of lopsided contracts and lack of job security.
"We need laws to protect artistes as well as government acknowledgment so the industry can be a big money-making source for the nation,'' said Sharifah Amani, 33, who came into prominence in 2005 with the co-lead role in the hit movie Sepet.
She said unless something is done, artistes would continue to struggle and the industry would deteriorate further.
"Our actors, dancers, musicians, writers and others in our industry are struggling.
"We don't have unions to look out for us and we don't have set minimum wages or insurance coverage,'' lamented Sharifah Amani.
She said industry members were also given one-sided contracts that stipulated a mere lump sum payment for work done.
"But the big companies put your movies on various other platforms without telling you or giving you residual or royalty payments,'' said Sharifah Amani.
She hoped that the matter would be raised in Parliament so that the government could look into the matter and initiate laws to protect artistes who give their all to keep the local entertainment industry alive.
She said the situation was so one-sided that even producers do not own the rights to the programmes they make.
Sharifah Amani said that the crewmembers were the worst hit as they had to work long hours for pittance.
She said that most have families to support and are forced to put up with poor working conditions and remuneration.
When contacted, Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo said that there was a need for the issue to be looked into carefully.
"We need to make sure artistes have means by which their concerns can be addressed effectively and the suggestion for a union will be looked at,'' added Gobind.
According to Gobind, the new team in the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) was perusing different clusters and concerns affecting the industry and looking at ways to solve specific issues.
"I will suggest to them for the need for a committee to focus on this as well,'' said Gobind.

Sandakan MP Stephen Wong collapsed in car after hiking

KOTA KINABALU: Two-term Sandakan MP and Sabah Health and People's Well-being Minister Datuk Stephen Wong Tien Fatt collapsed in his car after he went on a hike at the Tambaig Adventure Park in Kg Duvanson, Putatan near here early Thursday (March 28).
He was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital emergency unit where doctors failed to revive him and was pronounced dead at about 12.15pm.
Wong, 64, was with his wife and some officials during the hike organised by the Junior Chamber International (JCI), and was seen in a video listening to a guide's explanation of the area.
According to sources who declined to be named, there was no sign of him having any difficulty during the hike.
Apart from his wife, he leaves behind three daughters and a son.
Family members are expected to bring his remains home to Sandakan.
Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal and other state ministers are with Wong's family at the hospital.
"This is a tragic day where a friend and minister has passed away. He is my old friend who fought with us in politics prior to GE14," said Shafie.
He said Wong was a hardworking minister and a people-centric leader.
Wong's death is set to trigger another by-election.
Wong, a Sabah lawmaker, first became involved in politics in the 1980s, but took a long break before going full-time into politics in the early 2000s.
He became the MP for Sandakan as an opposition member in 2013 after beating incumbent Datuk Liew Vui Keong of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) with a 1,088 majority in the 13th General Election in 2013.
In GE14 last year, Wong kept his seat after beating newcomer Lim Ming Hoo of the LDP with a 10,098 majority and served as a government MP after the ruling Barisan Nasional party was overthrown in the election.
Sandakan Chinese Chamber of Commerce chairman Chong Chang Hing, in expressing his shock over Wong's sudden demise, said his passing was a loss to the people of Sabah, particularly those in Sandakan.
"He rose from being a vocal and strong opposition leader to being in the government. He was a leader who strived to champion the well-being of the people," he said.
Chong said it was sad to note that Wong did not have the opportunity to fulfil many of his visions for the people of Sandakan and Sabah.
United Sandakan Chinese Communities Association chairperson Leung Kam Ying said she was saddened by Wong's passing and remembered him as a friendly and humble person.
"He always asked us for input on ways to improve Sandakan's economy and organised activities and had plans to bring back the crowd to our town," she said, adding that Wong was a good leader who was willing to listen to the people.

SHAH ALAM: Malaysia's Young Tigers will have to wait and see if they have booked a spot in AFC U-23 Championship 2020 in Thailand after being held by China 2-2.
Malaysia’s goals were scored by Danial Haqim Draman (54th) and an own goal by Zhu Chenjie (10th), while China’s goals were scored by Zhang Yuning (18th) and Jiang Shenglong (83rd), in what proved to be a pulsating Group J AFC U-23 Championship qualifying match at the Shah Alam Stadium Tuesday (March 26).
The draw leaves Malaysia in second as they finished with seven points from three matches and will now have to wait to see if they are one of the FOUR best placed second teams in the qualifiers.
China also finished on seven points but their better goal difference saw them top the group and qualify for the tournament in Thailand.
In the first half, Malaysia drew first blood in the 10th minute when Syahmi Safari brilliantly beat two Chinese defenders and unleashed a cross that was deflected into the goal by China’s defender Zhu Chenjie.
Eight minutes later, China equalised through Yuning, who benefited from Malaysia’s ball-watching defence, by heading a sumptuous cross from the left.
That goal certainly woke Malaysia up as they conjured up brilliant moves and pressured China throughout the half.
After the break, Harimau Malaya continued their upward momentum and constantly pressured China’s defence through the attacking triumvirate of Safawi Rasid, Akhyar Rashid and Hadi Fayyadh.
In the 54th minute, Malaysia deservedly got a second goal through Danial, who capitalised on a spill made by China’s goalkeeper Chen Wei.
After that goal, Malaysia relied on quick counters while China used their aerial strength by unleashing crosses.
That move paid off when Jiang Shenglong equalised again for China in the 83rd minute, when his header beat Malaysian goalkeeper Haziq Nadzli.

Singapore Airlines Flight from Mumbai escorted by Singapore fighter jets after pilot raised alarm of a bomb
Singapore Airlines bomb hoax: flight from Mumbai escorted by fighter jets after pilot raised alarm

A Singapore Airlines plane from Mumbai was escorted to Changi Airport by Singapore’s air force and touched down safely on Tuesday morning, after the pilot raised a bomb threat alert.
The Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft landed at Changi Airport at 7.45am local time, Singapore Airlines (SIA) told Channel NewsAsia.
Flight SQ423 took off from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport on Monday at 11.36pm local time and arrived 31 minutes late, according to website FlightAware.
Explained: Asia’s aviation success stories – and its biggest flight disasters
After the plane left Mumbai, the airline received a call claiming that there was a bomb on-board, The Straits Times reported. The plane signalled an emergency during landing and other planes around it were diverted, a map from live flight tracker website Flightradar24 shows.
A woman and a child were detained for questioning by the Singapore police. All other passengers disembarked safely and were required to undergo security screening before they could leave, The Straits Times reported.
Vijay Singh, a 41-year-old executive producer, said he was dozing off when the pilot announced there was a bomb on the plane but it might be a hoax. Later, some passengers took videos of the RSAF jets lined up next to the plane, he said, adding that when the plane landed, passengers were told to remain seated.
“It was about 10-15 minutes of silence with no updates and then finally the go-ahead to disembark was given,” he said. “If there were checks off the plane, it was not visible to passengers. After that, it took another 10-15 minutes for us to clear security checks. Many passengers were worried about connecting flights.
“Mentally I was in a state of disarray, having had just woken up from a red-eye flight – trying to assess the gravity of the situation with fighter jets next to us ... definitely tense and alarmed by the situation as it sounded like something right out of a movie except that it was in real life.”
There were 263 passengers on board and more than 20 people missed their connecting flights.
A spokesman from the Singapore police told The Straits Times no suspicious items were found on the plane after it landed at Changi Airport.
“We are assisting the authorities with their investigations and regret that we are unable to provide further details,” the SIA spokesperson said.
Asia’s aviation industry is booming, so why isn’t it making money?
Last April, a similar bomb threat incident occurred on a Scoot flight from Singapore to Hat Yai, Thailand.
Hsu Chun Meng, 41, who was unhappy about being told to check in his oversized carry-on baggage joked he had a bomb in the bag. The plane turned back mid-flight and was escorted by two Singapore air force fighter jets.
Hsu was fined S$4,500 (US$3,333) for the bomb hoax.

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has told his daughter Nurul Izzah that there will always be challenges and disappointments in her path.
"Izzah is my eldest child and as a father, her happiness and well-being comes first. However, as a father, I am also obligated to advise my children that they will always face challenges and disappointments in any path they choose.
“The hardships and hurt my family went through for the past twenty years have left their mark. Izzah herself was thrust into the limelight and has spent most of her adult life fighting to help reform the nation,” the Port Dickson MP said in an Instagram post on Tuesday (March 26).
Anwar had posted a black and white picture of him and Nurul Izzah.
Nurul Izzah had told Singapore’s The Straits Times during an interview that she was “broken-hearted” having to work once again with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, whom she described as a “former dictator”.
Nurul Izzah also said she would be serving her final term as an MP due to her disappointment with the Pakatan Harapan government’s performance.
On Saturday (March 23), Nurul Izzah confirmed that she had quit the parliament's Public Accounts Committee.
She also had announced in December last year that she would quit all PKR party posts while remaining as a parliamentary backbencher committed to reforms.

A forensics expert in the inquest into the death of Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim stood by his statement that the injuries suffered by the fireman were likely not caused by assault.
Adib inquest: Injuries not from assault, reiterates forensics expert

SHAH ALAM: Amidst claims that he lied, a forensics expert in the inquest into the death of Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim stood by his statement that the injuries suffered by the fireman were likely not caused by assault.
Hospital Kuala Lumpur forensics expert Dr Ahmad Hafizam Hasmi said he had fully disclosed all information regarding Muhammad Adib’s injuries and urged anyone who might have additional information to step forward.
“I request that we obtain permission so that anyone with any other information regarding the death or injuries of the deceased that I have not collected during my clinical examination – I ask the coroner to call him or her to court,” he said.
Dr Ahmad Hafizam said this while testifying before judge Rofiah Mohamad who is sitting as coroner for the inquest at the Shah Alam court on Tuesday (March 26).
“If all staff involved can give a statement, I’m the first who will stand up and say that it is not by accident.
“We saw his face, we saw the bruises all over his body and so many things I can’t even tell here.
“We are not blind, and so (sic) you – a doctor should have a big heart, but for you, I just see a heartless human,” she wrote in reference to Dr Ahmad Hafizam's earlier testimony.
The woman has since retracted her Facebook post.
Dr Ahmad Hafizam said following the post, he had been criticised for his testimony.
“Following the posting, I have been insulted and called a liar.
“(However) I have found no injuries to the face of the deceased, whether during the clinical examination or during the postmortem.
“Whatever injuries we have found during the postmortem or the clinical examination have been documented accordingly,” he said.
He added that he made his statements to the court based on his examinations and what he deemed to be the most likely possibility.
Muhammad Adib was critically injured in the early morning of Nov 27 last year after he and his team members from the Subang Jaya fire station responded to an emergency call at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple where a riot was taking place.
The fireman was taken to SJMC after he was found injured, before being transferred to the National Heart Institute (IJN) for further treatment, where he died at 9.41pm on Dec 17, 2018.

Negri MB to resign as SIGC president after club reverses decision to ban alcohol
Negri MB to resign as SIGC president after club reverses decision to ban alcohol

SEREMBAN: Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (pic) will resign as Seremban International Golf Club (SIGC) president after members voted to overturn a decision by the management to ban the sale of beer at its premises.
The Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar said he would write to the management soonest on this.
"I have decided to resign following the decision by the members.
"I will inform the management of this in writing," he said, when met at an event in Sikamat.
The post of deputy president is reserved for the state secretary.
The 18-hole course is owned by the state government, while the clubhouse and other facilities belong to the members.
On Sunday (March 25), almost 135 members who had turned up at an extraordinary general meeting voted to overturn the ban on the sale of beer implemented since last August.
The club management made the decision when Aminuddin was made president.
With the decision taken at the EGM, the club can now resume selling and serving beer.
Members said the decision by the management to ban the sale of beer at the club was simply against the club’s constitution.
Apart from violating the club’s decades-old practice of selling and serving beer, the members claimed the decision was made against the will of the majority of the club's some 1,500 members.
On Thursday (March 21), Aminuddin threatened to resign as president if members vote to overturn a decision of its management to stop the sale of beer at the premises.
Aminuddin said he cannot be helming a club which sold and served beer to its members and patrons when he was also state Islamic Affairs committee head.
"I will have no problem resigning, as I do not play golf," he had said.
Aminuddin said he cannot be the president of the club if it continued selling beer, as the course was located in an area where almost all the residents were Muslims.
He also admitted proposing to the management committee to stop the sale of beer if he were to become president then, as there was a mosque just next to the club and several more in the vicinity.
Aminuddin said it was also inappropriate to sell beer at the club as many of its members were civil servants.

British Airways Wrongly Lands in Edinburgh Scotland instead of Dusseldorf in Germany
London (CNN) — Passengers on a British Airways flight from London's City Airport to Dusseldorf in Germany were met with a surprise Monday morning when their plane touched down -- in the Scottish capital, Edinburgh.
The error was down to an incorrectly filed flight plan, leading both the pilot and cabin crew to believe the flight was bound for Edinburgh. =
The flight was operated by German leasing company WDL Aviation on behalf of the British Airways subsidiary airline BA CityFlyer. The incorrect flight plan was filed at WDL Aviation's offices in Germany.fter landing in Edinburgh, the plane took off a second time for Dusseldorf.
Piotr Pomienski, a student at Imperial College London, told CNN his girlfriend Zsófia Szabó was on the plane that landed in Edinburgh by mistake. "I saw on Flightradar that the flight was flying north instead of south, but I assumed it was a system error of some sort. That is until she wrote to me that they're in Edinburgh."
Szabó told CNN she realized something wasn't right when she saw mountains outside the plane, instead of the "usual German industrial landscape."
"When we started descending and I saw some taller hills/mountains, I did think that this isn't how Eastern Netherlands/Western Germany should look like but I assumed we took some small detour," she said. "Then my colleague sitting across the aisle from me told me to check Google Maps -- and it showed us being around Carlisle."
"The information then spread around quite quickly. Everyone started asking everyone else where they were going -- everyone was for Dusseldorf."
"When we landed there was a bit of a hilarious moment when the flight attendant asked for a show of hands for the people going to Dusseldorf, which turned out to be everyone," she said.
The captain subsequently apologized to the passengers, telling them the plane would refuel before heading to Germany.
"Most of us found this situation quite funny," Szabó said. "People were on phone calls trying to convince everyone that they've arrived in the wrong city."
Another passenger on the flight, Son Tran, told CNN: "Most passengers sleep or work through this flight so no one really noticed we were not flying over the Channel. We only realized we are in Scotland once we descended on approach and asked the crew."
In a statement, a spokesperson for British Airways said the airline was working with WDL Aviation "to establish why the incorrect flight plan was filed."
"We have apologized to customers for this interruption to their journey and will be contacting them all individually," the spokesperson said.
WDL Aviation said in a statement: "We are working closely with the authorities to investigate how the obviously unfortunate mix-up of flight schedules could occur. At no time has the safety of passengers been compromised. We flew the passengers on the flight with number BA3271 to Dusseldorf after the involuntary stopover in Edinburgh."

PETALING JAYA: MPH bookstores says it is investigating an allegation by a chemist who claimed his son was slapped twice by a security guard at its Nu Sentral outlet.
They said that the employee involved has been suspended pending the investigation.
“We thank you for your concern, and for bringing this matter to our attention.
“Please (be) assured that we take this matter very seriously,” MPH said in a statement on its Facebook page.
He alleged in a Facebook post that the guard brought his son into another room where he then slapped the teenager's face twice.
Lim then said that the guard later discovered that the book had a sticker proving that it had been bought in the past and added that the guard told his son to not tell his parents about the incident.

ALOR SETAR: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has voiced his disappointment, following a remark by Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar to a Singaporean media that she was dissatisfied with Pakatan Harapan's governance.
"Tak pa la, dia banyak orang kecewa. Saya pun kecewa dengan dia orang. (Never mind, many people are disappointed. I am also disappointed with them)," Dr Mahathir told reporters after delivering a special mandate to some 500 civil servants at Dewan Seri Negeri here on Monday (March 25).
Dr Mahathir did not elaborate further as to who he was disappointed with.
This came after Nurul Izzah told Singapore’s The Straits Times that she was "broken-hearted” having to once again work with Dr Mahathir.
Earlier, Dr Mahathir urged civil servants to stop any corruption in their work and organisation following the launch of the National Anti-Corruption Plan (NACP) in January.
He said a materialistic mentality and a desire for shortcuts to acquire wealth quickly should be rejected as such practices will lead to corruption and abuses of power.
"History has shown how strong and grand Muslim empires were destroyed through abuses of power and corruption.
"When corruption and abuses of power are widespread, the strength of the empires weakened and they were eventually brought down and conquered by their enemies," he said.
The NACP addresses six key priority areas; political governance, public sector administration, public procurement, legal and judicial, law enforcement and corporate governance.
Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir at the ceremony also led some 500 civil servants in an anti-corruption pledge before signing the integrity and anti-corruption pledge witnessed by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull.
Also present was Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption Centre (GIACC) director-general Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed.
