The King - Yang Di Pertuan Agong has Reunion With of old classmates and teachers from St Thomas School
The King and his friends reunite to rekindle memories

KUALA LUMPUR: A reunion of old classmates brought back memories of fun-filled schooldays for none other than the King himself.
At a gathering organised by the St Thomas School Alumni at Istana Negara yesterday, teachers and fellow classmates came together to meet an old friend who is now Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
The 59-year-old men who once studied with the King way back from 1969 to 1974 talked about memories ranging from bad grades, their sports involvement and strict teachers! They studied and played together with the future King in the last three years of primary school and first three years of secondary school before Sultan Abdullah had to leave the school in Kuantan.
Even now, there were no formalities with Sultan Abdullah as he mingled with his alumni and spoke to his teachers.
“Thank you for all the lessons and guidance. I left in 1975 and lost contact, not because we did not want to be in touch. My grandfather suddenly passed away and I had to leave to be made Regent of Pahang,” he told the gathering, apologising for not being able to bid a proper goodbye to his schoolmates. There was a light moment when the King spoke about what he termed as his “progress” in school.
“In Std 6, I was in class A, Form 1 Class B, Form 2 Class C and Form 3 Class D. I was more into sports than being a brilliant student!” he said to everyone’s laughter.
Head of the batch Datuk Mohamad Sohaimi said the idea of a reunion began with a request from Sultan Abdullah who wanted it held at Istana Negara.
The King’s teacher Chiew Seng Van, who taught him commerce, said His Majesty was a keen football and hockey player.
“He mixed freely with other students and did not demand special treatment. If he made mistakes and did not pass up his homework on time, he was punished like any other student,” he recalled.
Chiew said Sultan Abdullah was also not one to complain, adding that headmaster M.N. D’Cruz and the teachers treated him like any other student.
“He took part in all school activities with pride and enthusiasm. He was humble and unassuming,” he added.
The King later took his ex-classmates and teachers for a short tour of the palace.
Also present was Raja Permaisuri Agung Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Almarhum Sultan Iskandar.

Muhyiddin defends inclusion of Mokhtar in Pastor Koh and Amri task force

KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has defended the inclusion of Datuk Mokhtar Mohd Noor in the task force, probing the disappearances of pastor Raymond Koh and Perlis activist Amri Che Mat.
The Home Minister said that the former Royal Malaysian Police Legal Unit chief’s neutrality is not compromised, as claimed by Koh’s family.
The family had released a statement on Wednesday (June 26), questioning the appointment of Mokhtar due to his participation in the Suhakam hearing into the disappearance.
“He was not involved in the hearing. He merely attended an open session.
So, I believe his inclusion will not compromise the task force from carrying out its duties in a fair and transparent manner,” he said.
Muhyiddin was speaking after attending the Registrar of Societies’ (RoS) “Sustainable Societies” programme at Rumah Puspanita here on Saturday (June 29).
Koh’s family had also said that the earlier suggestion of including a member from the Bar Council, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and a representative from a non-governmental organisation into the task force were not taken into account.
Along with Koh’s family, Amri's wife, Norhayati Mohd Ariffin, had also expressed her concern about the composition of the task force, noting that it will impact the independence and impartiality necessary for a credible investigation.
Noting the inclusion of Mokhtar in the task force, she had said that he was a member of the same division that was implicated in the flawed investigation into Amri’s abduction and later in the team representing the police during the Suhakam inquiry.
She went on to say that Mokhtar is an interested party and represents a conflict of interest.

Two Tour companies Who Cancelled Tours Forced to pay back customers by Consumer Claims Tribunal
Holiday plans dashed but victims to get their money back

Asri at the Johor Baru Consumer Claims Tribunal
JOHOR BARU: An engineer who wanted to be known only as Shaji has learnt his lesson and plans to be more careful in the future when planning holidays.
He had booked a 11D/8N tour package for him and his wife to visit several Western European countries from April 18 to 28, costing RM7,980 via online transactions.
However, the 48-year-old said he received an email from the company in February informing him that all tour packages by the company from February until June this year had been cancelled.
“We were attracted to the package as similar tour packages normally cost more,’’ Shaji said when met at the Johor Baru Consumer Claims Tribunal at Menara Ansar here.
Shaji said prior to booking the tour package, he had checked with the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry and found that the company was registered with the ministry.
“My wife and I were also convinced by the testimonials on the company’s Facebook page from holidaymakers who went on tours with the company,” he said.
He said the company promised to return the total sum in five instalments up to August but had failed to do so until now.
He said a newspaper report in February stated that the chief executive officer of the company was arrested by the police at his office in Taman Sentral Kajang, Selangor.
It said the 34-year-old suspect was detained after one of the victims lodged a police report.
The victim had deposited RM27,133 into the company’s bank account for a group tour to Turkey and France but found out the tour was cancelled after arriving at KL International Airport.
Consumer Claims Tribunal president Khairul Azreem Mamat ordered the company to refund RM7,980 paid by Shaji in 14 days.
In another case, construction supervisor Muhammad Asri Abu Bakar, 30, said he was approached by a salesman promoting holiday packages at a shopping complex here on March 3.
“I was attracted to the 3D/2N package for four to Terengganu at RM999,’’ he said, adding that he had planned to go on holiday with his wife and their two children to Terengganu in December.
Asri said he paid RM399 on the spot to the salesman using a debit card and a week later called the company’s office in Seri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur for updates on the family holiday itinerary.
However, the company’s representative said the tour packages had been cancelled.
He said the company refused to return the RM399 deposit paid.
Asri said he decided to file a case with the Johor Baru Consumer Claims Tribunal to get his money back.
Khairul ordered the company to return the RM399 paid by Asri in 14 days.

Pahang Herold Goulon’s wonder goal against Perak worth for Puskas FIFA Award
Goulon’s goal looks worthy for Puskas award
FOOTBALL
Tuesday, 25 Jun 2019
PETALING JAYA: The football fraternity is buzzing with excitement over Pahang Herold Goulon’s (pic) wonder goal against Perak in the first leg FA Cup semi-final tie in Kuantan.
The Frenchman’s superb goal from way over the halfway line is seen as a worthy nominee for the 2019 FIFA Puskas Award.
The former Blackburn Rovers centreback, who recently celebrated his 31st birthday on June 12, took a free-kick from 65 metres and it went past Perak’s goalkeeper Hafizul Hakim, who couldn’t reach the ball in time.
International stars like Xabi Alonso, Wayne Rooney, David Beckham, Rivaldo, Dejan Stankovic have scored scorchers from the halfway line, but Goulon’s goal has been set apart from the rest because it was taken from a dead ball situation.
Even Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has given his thumbs up.
“Goulon told me that it’s been crazy. His phone has been ringing all the time,” said Suffian.
“We’ll provide all details to FAM (Football Association of Malaysia). We are happy for Goulon. We hope this goal will put Malaysia on the world map,” said Suffian.
Goulon’s nomination for the award will not be the first. FAM are also considering Syahmi Safari’s wonder goal at the AFF Suzuki Cup last year for the award.
The goal from the 21-year-old Selangor player was scored against Thailand at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok last December and helped Harimau Malaya reach the final, where they eventually lost to Vietnam. In 2016, former Penang star Faiz Subri was nominated and joined the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal, Zlatan Ibrahimovic of Sweden and James Rodriguez of Colombia in winning the award.

PETALING JAYA: A 21-year-old Malaysian collapsed and died while competing in the Swansea Half Marathon in Swansea, Wales last Sunday (June 23).
The victim, identified as Wil Sern Ong, collapsed just metres from the finish line of the 21km event in Adelaide Street at about 13:20 BST (about 8.20pm local time) on Sunday.
BBC reported that Ong was taken to the Morriston Hospital after first-aid providers had tried to revive him.
He was studying environmental engineering at the Swansea University.
The BBC also noted that this is the second time Ong had participated in the event, having complete the 21km half marathon in 2018.
Ong, who came from Petaling Jaya, was a sergeant in the 12th Kuala Lumpur Boys' Brigade in Malaysia before leaving to study in Swansea.
BBC quoted Ong's family as saying, "We are so heartbroken by the sudden and tragic passing of Wil Sern Ong.
"No words could express how sad and painful it is for the family and all those who knew him.
"(Ong) was a rare gem to find, well-versed in God's word, spiritually matured beyond his years, so full of life, well mannered, helpful and kind.
"In the short span of nearly 21 years, he had impacted and inspired so many."
Several of Ong's friends have written on his Facebook page, saying how much he had inspired them.
Nicholas Yeap wrote that Ong was the one who encouraged him during his journey in the Boys' Brigade.
"He was one of the very few who speak to me like a friend yet respect me as his Captain," Yeap wrote.
Yeap added that Ong used to constantly think of how he could do better and was always willing to help others out when needed.
The Malaysian Association of Swansea University (Masu) also extended its condolences to Ong's family and friends.
In a statement undersigned by its current and incoming presidents Matthew Johnny Kulai and Low Su Yi, Masu said that Ong, a former secretary, was someone who was deeply trusted and relied upon during his time as a committee member.
"His legacy of service and charm will be remembered, and he will be forever missed," MASU noted.

Singapore bans import of bottled water from Malaysian manufacturer after traces of bacteria found
Saturday, 29 Jun 201910:59 AM MYT
SINGAPORE (Bernama): A consignment of bottled drinking water from a Malaysian manufacturer has been detected with the presence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a common environmental bacteria, here.
In a circular addressed to bottled water importers, Singapore Food Agency (SFA) informed that through its recent surveillance, consignments of bottled drinking water from Malee Mineral Water Sdn Bhd were detected with the bacteria.
In view of the detection, SFA noted that the import of all bottled drinking and mineral water from the manufacturer is not permitted, with immediate effect.
Earlier on June 12, SFA informed that it had detected the presence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in "Starfresh" bottled drinking water during a routine sampling of the product.
The product was imported from Malaysia by Radha Exports Pte Ltd.
According to SFA, Pseudomonas aeruginosa can be found in faeces, soil, water and sewage.
It can multiply in water environments and also on the surface of suitable organic materials in contact with water.
Use or consumption of products contaminated with Pseudomonas aeruginosa can cause a range of infections, but rarely causes serious illness in healthy individuals, it said. - Bernama

JOHOR BARU, June 27 — The issue of a secondary school teacher in Skudai here who was alleged to have caned a female student, has been settled amicably.
Both parties agreed to reconcile their differences and not to prolong the issue further after a closed door meeting was held between them at the Johor Baru district education office here today.
Johor Education, Human Resource, Science and Technology Committee chairman Aminolhuda Hassan, who was present at the meeting, said the two parties openly apologised on the matter after the meeting.
“The meeting between them went smoothly where both sides made efforts to resolve the matter well.
“At the same time, the female student’s family has also withdrawn their police report and we consider the matter settled,” he said in a statement here today.
Meanwhile, Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said investigations will still continue on a report lodged by the female student’s mother on claims that her daughter was caned by her teacher, despite the report’s withdrawal.
He said police are aware of the report’s withdrawal by the complainant today, but it is up to the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) to close the case.
“However, police will remark to the DPP that the complainant has withdrawn the report pending the decision for us to stop investigations,” he said when contacted by Malay Mail today.
Earlier, police said they are investigating the case under Section 324 of the Penal Code for deliberately causing injury.
Yesterday, Aminolhuda said a meeting between the two parties will take place today to seek an amicable solution without involving the law.
This was following a viralled video that was circulated on social media two days ago on the issue of a secondary school teacher who was accused of caning a female student repeatedly that left red marks on the student’s arms and thighs.
The two-minute and 28-second video that showed a woman, believed to be the girl’s mother, questioning the male teacher for allegedly caning her daughter on the arm and thighs, went viral on social media recently and the photo of the girl’s injuries have also gone viral.

The feature known as Magnum 4D CASCADING, is the second time held this year and kicks in when a particular jackpot prize reaches over RM30 million.
“The highest Jackpot1 in Magnum history since the 4D Jackpot game was launched is RM33,822,299.

Avid Magnum player known as Adrian said he looks forward to the feature as he aimed for the top prizes, namely Jackpot1 and Jackpot2.
“Wow! It is so exciting to see the Jackpot1 amount rising to RM29,883,000 and imagine if cascading kicks in!”

KUALA LUMPUR, June 27 — The 1Bestarinet contract to provide internet access and virtual learning environment (VLE) to over 10,000 public schools nationwide ends on June 30, after seven years of service.
In a statement today, the Education Ministry said three companies — Telekom Malaysia Berhad, Celcom Axiata Berhad and Maxis Broadband Sdn Bhd — will take over as internet service providers (ISP) to all the schools beginning July 1.
“A large number out of the 10,211 schools will begin receiving the internet service as early as July 1, while a small number, especially those in rural areas, particularly in Sabah and Sarawak, will face slight disruption that is expected to be solved by the end of July,” the statement read.
The ministry added that the school will switch to Google Classroom to replace Frog VLE, following the termination of the 1Bestarinet contract.
Last December, Education Minister Maszlee Malik said the decision to continue the 1Bestarinet programme in schools would be determined this year, as the was still bound to the programme until June 2019, based on an agreement made between the previous Barisan Nasional government and supplier.
1Bestarinet was introduced in 2011 by the ministry, and had come under scrutiny in the Auditor-General’s and Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee report in 2013 and 2014.
Some of the highlights in the reports included delays in delivery and implementation of the RM4 billion programme, bad performance complaints from teachers and other stakeholders, as well as bad contract management.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 — Malaysia’s capital has risen by four places as the world’s 141 most expensive city to live and work in.
Global human resource and institutional investment consulting firm Mercer’s 25th annual Cost of Living Survey found that Kuala Lumpur rose four places to 141 from 145 on the backs of the movement of other cities.
Eight of the world’s top 10 most expensive cities are currently located in Asia as a result of the region’s high costs for consumer goods and a dynamic housing market which has also created an impact on the pockets of expatriates in the continent.
“While Kuala Lumpur didn’t experience a rise in prices, currency fluctuations saw the Malaysian ringgit lose four per cent to the US dollar. Despite this, Kuala Lumpur rose slightly due to the movement of other cities,” said the firm’s press statement today.
Hong Kong tops the list as the world’s costliest city for the second consecutive year with the local housing market increasingly out of reach for many.
It remains as the most expensive city for expatriates both in Asia and globally as a result of the housing market and currency being pegged to the US dollar, driving up the cost of living locally.
The other seven Asian cities in the top 10 list are Tokyo which took second place, Singapore third, Seoul fourth place, Shanghai at number six, Beijing at number eight and Shenzhen taking the tenth place.
Mercer’s Global Mobility Practice Leader for Asia, Middle East and Africa, Mario Ferraro said Asia continued to be a major engine of global economic growth.
“Despite the relatively high cost of living, many organisations still see a strong business rationale for moving talent into and within the region.
“At the same time, cost considerations are still an issue, and we are seeing an increased focus on having a clear business case for the assignment, as well as measuring the return on investment,” he said in the statement.
This year’s ranking includes 209 cities across five continents and measures the comparative cost of more than 200 items in each location, including housing, transportation, food, clothing, household goods, and entertainment.
The statement explained that the figures for Mercer’s cost of living and rental accommodation cost comparisons were derived from a survey conducted in March 2019.
Exchange rates from that time and Mercer’s international basket of goods and services from its Cost of Living Survey have been used as base measurements.
Group MD in 2009 Bakke back to Felda in 2019, a homecoming at crucial and challenging time
Bakke back to Felda, a homecoming at crucial and challenging time
Wednesday, 26 Jun 20198:21 PM MYT
KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 (Bernama) - It is a sort of homecoming for Tan Sri Mohd Bakke Salleh after he has been appointed to succeed Tan Sri Megat Zaharuddin Megat Mohd Nor as the chairman of the Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA), albeit at a crucial and more challenging time.
His appointment, effective July 1, 2019, is for two years.
Mohd Bakke was the group managing director of Felda Holdings Bhd in 2009 and was subsequently appointed as the group president and chief executive officer of the then Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd
image: https://cdn.thestar.com.my/Themes/img/chart.png, which is now known as FGV Holdings Bhd.
Having vast experience in the plantation industry, Mohd Bakke is the perfect candidate for the post as he can ensure the state-owned plantation agency’s smooth turnaround, Public Investment Bank analyst Chong Hoe Leong told Bernama when asked on the appointment.
However, the position was nothing short of challenges amid the financial woes with debts and losses soaring, as well as the challenges within the plantation sector itself, he said.
A white paper released to Parliament in April revealed that FELDA's total liabilities increased substantially by 1,100% from RM1.2bil in 2007 to RM14.4bil in 2017 compared with an increase in asset value at only 107 per cent.
Forensic audit findings also showed a loss or impairment of RM2.2bil for eight transactions that were being investigated, constituting 50 per cent of the original investment value.
"For any plantation company, the crude palm oil (CPO) price is always the crucial factor that will determine the company’s sales and cost structure and most of the companies in the industry are facing a similar problem. Plantation companies have posted bad financial results over the last two, three quarters.”
On top of all these, there is obviously a lot of pressure to perform after the RM6.23bil aid that the government decided to provide to FELDA to ensure its sustainability.
For a start, Chong believed there could be further cost-cutting measures within FELDA amid the ongoing land lease agreement (LLA) issue with FGV.
Last week, FGV said in a letter to shareholders that the company would remain on track to become a high-performing company even if the other shareholders agreed to return the land managed under the LLA.
FGV noted that it owns all its mills and refineries as they are not part of the LLA agreement and would remain with the plantation company.
On the contrary, CIMB Equities Research was reported as saying that the termination of the LLA was negative for FGV and its plan to move downstream would take a longer time to bear fruit.

Consumer Claim Tribunal orders contractor to pay houseowner RM17,000
Tribunal orders contractor to pay houseowner RM17,000

by zazali musa
JOHOR BARU: Moving into a new house is everyone’s dream but the dream could turn into a nightmare for some people.
Sales executive Azlaili Abd Aziz said she had paid about RM80,000 to a contractor to renovate her RM800,000 cluster house in Taman Kota Masai near Pasir Gudang.
“The money spent on the renovations is not worth it,’’ she said when met at the Johor Baru Consumer Claims Tribunal in Menara Ansar here.
Azlaili said the works started on March 3 and was completed on Aug 31 last year, with her family moving in a month later.
“When confronted, the contractor claimed there was nothing wrong with the workmanship,’’ she said, adding that only two workers carried out the renovation works.
Azlaili is claiming RM17,000 from the contractor from the total renovations cost and Consumer Claims Tribunal president Khairul Azreem ordered the contractor to pay the claimant the sum within 30 days.
In a separate case, businessmen Tan Cheong Yee wants a watch repairman to return the RM1,500 paid to him as the latter had failed to do the job.
The claimant said in November 2017, he had given his RM8,000 watch to the repairman and paid him RM1,500 to make it work again.
“Upon collecting it, I found that it was still not in working condition.
“When I asked him back for my money, he refused and claimed the money had been used to buy the parts for the repair works in Singapore,’’ he said, adding that the repairman had kept his watch for about a year.“I had to send the watch to an authorised dealer in Kuala Lumpur and paid RM4,000 for the repair,’’ he said.
“I went to see the repairman about 10 times last year asking him to return the RM1,500 but as he refused I filed a case with the Consumer Claims Tribunal.
Khairul ordered the respondent to return the RM1,500 to Tan within 14 days.

UEM Viral Transaction from Maybank is Fake! MACC has cleared Datuk Seri Azmin Ali of any wrongdoing
‘UEM transaction faked’=

by farik zolkepli
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has cleared Datuk Seri Azmin Ali of any wrongdoing but police investigation into the sex video implicating the Economic Affairs Minister is still ongoing.
The investigation includes the latest video, which appeared on YouTube on Tuesday.
MACC deputy chief commissioner Datuk Seri Azam Baki said the alleged transfer of US$741,440 (RM3.1mil) from UEM Group Bhd into a bank account bearing Azmin’s name did not exist.
“The probe showed the transaction between the accounts did not exist, and neither do the accounts.
“UEM and Maybank themselves have issued statements on the non-existent accounts,” he told the press at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex yesterday.
Azam said their investigations also found no Deutsche Bank account in Azmin’s name, allegedly opened in September 2012.
On June 11, Umno supreme council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam lodged a complaint with the MACC over the purported transaction involving Azmin’s account.
UEM denied owning a bank account with Maybank as indicated in documents that went viral while Maybank stated the bank document was forged.
The allegations were part of the sex video implicating Azmin that went viral earlier this month.
Former deputy minister’s aide Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz confessed to being one of the men in the video and claimed that the other man was Azmin.
Separately, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Mazlan Mansor said the investigation on the sex video was still ongoing.
He said the probe, including into the latest video uploaded on YouTube, would be carried out under one investigation paper (IP).
“It happens every day. All will fall under one IP,” he said after attending the Police Cooperative Berhad Annual General Meeting opening.Asked on the status of the digital forensics to determine the authenticity of the video, Mazlan said it was “on the way”.

New sex video uploaded to YouTube, ‘full version’ appears on Pornhub

PETALING JAYA:A new video clip showing former deputy minister’s aide Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz and a man resembling Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali has appeared on YouTube, while a nine-minute-plus full version has been uploaded to pornography site Pornhub.
As with earlier clips, the YouTube video, which may be removed for violating the video file-sharing site’s community standards, shows two naked men in bed facing a television set playing a news broadcast.
Haziq, who has confessed to being one of the men in earlier videos, is seen getting up from bed, while the second man – whom Haziq has alleged is Azmin – uses his handphone. A couple of flashes emanate from the device’s screen, akin to flashes when pictures are taken.
Haziq is then seen walking across the room after donning a bathrobe.
The video, titled “No way”, was uploaded late Tuesday (June 25) night.
Meanwhile, a nine-minute-plus video was also uploaded to Pornhub. This video, titled “Scandal Azmin Ali Full”, appears to be the full version of various clips that have gone viral over the last few weeks.
Haziq, the Santubong PKR Youth chief, has been slapped with a show-cause letter by his party. He has also been sacked as senior private secretary to the Deputy Primary Industries Minister.
He claimed the incident happened at a hotel on May 11 during the Sandakan by-election campaign.
Azmin has denied any involvement in the sex video and called it a nefarious plot to destroy his political career.
The police are investigating the matter.

Felda Global Ventures Holdings' (FGV) board of directors is in a bind after shareholders approved the reappointment of its members but voted down the payment of their fees and allowances.
"This has put us in a bit of a bind. The ironic thing is that we did not have any problems with the re-election of directors as all those resolutions were approved.
"It's as though the shareholders still want us to be directors but do not intend to pay us," FGV chairperson Azhar Abdul Hamid was quoted as saying by The Edge Markets.
The major shareholders who voted against the directors' fees at the company's annual general assembly (AGM) today were the Felda Land Development Authority (33.7 percent), Koperasi

So they are looking at options as to how to resolve this.
“What concerns us most is the interests of the company, so we want to make sure whatever decision that we make does not represent only one shareholder’s interests in mind but has the interests of all shareholders and also the interests of the corporation," Azhar was quoted as saying by Bernama.
The major shareholders voted down almost RM4 million in directors' fees as well as other benefits.
The resolutions that were voted down are as follow:
1) To approve the payment of directors’ fees amounting to RM2,546,044.42 in respect of the financial year ended Dec 31, 2018.
2) To approve the payment of a portion of directors’ fees payable to the non-executive directors up to an amount of RM1,178,400.00 from June 26, 2019, until the next annual general meeting of the company to be held in 2020.
3) To approve the payment of benefits payable to the non-executive directors based on the remuneration structure as disclosed in Explanatory Note 4 for the period from June 26, 2019, until the next annual general meeting of the company to be held in 2020.
According to "Explanatory Note 4", non-executive directors are entitled to a RM2,000 allowance for local meetings and this amount increases to RM5,000 for meetings overseas where they have to take a flight of more than eight hours.
As for teleconferencing, they are entitled to an allowance of RM1,000.
Other perks include medical coverage, insurance coverage, travel expenses, benefits-in-kind and other claimable benefits.
The non-executive chairperson is also entitled to a car allowance, driver, club membership and telecommunications device.
However, the directors won't be getting these benefits after Felda shareholders' voted them down.
The reappointed directors were Azhar, Mohamed Suffian Awang, Hoi Lai Ping, Yusli Mohamed Yusoff, Mohd Hassan Ahmad and Othman Omar. The FGV shareholders also voted down a fourth resolution which would have granted the directors authority to issue new shares.
The remaining eight resolutions, which concerned the reappointment of the individual directors and auditor, as well as renewal of shareholder mandate for related-party transactions, were approved.
FGV suffered a net loss of RM1.08 billion in 2018 compared to a net profit of RM130.928 million in 2017.

KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Megat Zaharuddin Megat Mohd Nor stepped down as the Felderal Land Development Authority (Felda) chairman due to health reasons, says the Prime Minister.
Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the government was informed that he was unwell.
"We were informed about it. He (Megat) said he was unwell, that is why he asked to be allowed (to resign), and we agreed to it," he said at the sidelines of the 33rd Asia-Pacific Roundtable event on Tuesday (June 25).
Megat was appointed about 11 months ago, on July 26 last year.
Felda, in a statement, then announced that Megat Zaharuddin's resignation was effective on Monday (June 24).
It said during his tenure as chairman, Megat Zaharuddin had worked hard to understand better the issues involving Felda, especially those regarding the settlers.
During his several visits, Felda said he championed the socio-economic welfare of the settlers.
"Under his administration, several transformation initiatives were introduced to push and bring Felda back to its glory days," said the statement.

Sex Video Star Haziq says his political career is over in interview with The Star
Haziq: My political career is over
Tuesday, 25 Jun 2019
by philip golingai
LANGKAWI: Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz had wanted to run for public office in the future but his dreams have been dashed following the recent sex video scandal.
His shocking admission that he was the man in the clip and his allegation that Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali was the other man has put a spanner in his political dream.
Furthermore, the Santubong PKR Youth chief has been slapped with a show cause letter by his party over the controversy.
He was also sacked as senior private secretary to the Deputy Primary Industries Minister. The ministry viewed his admission as “of a sordid nature”.
Haziq felt that it was tragic that he got dragged in a conspiracy to bring down Azmin politically.
“I’m a victim. I am not involved in the conspiracy and I have no idea who is behind it. I leave it to the police to investigate,” he said.
“Of course, the Malay Muslim community can’t accept this kind of behaviour. But one thing is I admit – I did it. It was a mistake and the right thing to do was to confess,” he said.
On his sacking as Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin’s senior private secretary, Haziq said he felt disappointed.
“Just because I admitted that it was me in the video, how can you punish only one party when in fact the thing was done by two parties?” he asked.
On Saturday, The Star talked to Haziq in Langkawi where he went to take a break from the ordeal. Here are excerpts of the one-hour interview.
How did you and your family react when the sex video surfaced?
My family was very sad about this. On the day it went viral, my mum cried non-stop. My family was even afraid to leave the house (in Kuching).
When I made the video confession, they were shocked. At first, they thought that the video confession was fake. I told them, “look it was not fake, it was me”. They had to accept it.
Honestly, my family is very sad because my family is very conservative. And they want to jaga (take care) the good name of the family.
How did you react when the sex video came out?
I found out about the video at 8am when I woke up on June 11.
I was really shocked. At first, I thought that it was Azmin who recorded it because there is no way a senior minister’s room could be ceroboh (intruded) by anyone. The security must be tight, right?
At first, I did not want to admit it was me. At first, I felt afraid as a personal thing about me went viral. I was thinking of menyorok (go into hiding). That is why I deleted all my social media accounts.
On June 11, Hilman (Idham, who is Azmin’s political secretary) WhatsApp-ed me. He wanted to meet me. So, I asked where and he said Putrajaya Marriott. I waited for him for almost an hour before he turned up.
He basically asked me to deny it was me in the video. And he wanted to shoot my denial. I told him it is not in my nature to lie. It is not the right thing to do. Because of my refusal, Hilman got mad and he threatened me that within 48 hours he will finish it with or without me.
The thing that made me afraid was that Hilman showed me he had relations with SB (special branch), he got connections with MCMC (Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission), connections with powerful people. It was like he had control of government apparatus and I was very afraid.
After Hilman threatened me then I thought I better confess as he was willing to do anything for the sake of his boss.
But wouldn’t it have been better if you did not confess?
I was afraid that my fate would end up like Altantuya (Shaariibuu) or Kevin Morais. When people don’t know about you, anyone can harm you.
How come you looked cold in your video confession? And how come it looked like it was a deepfake and your father and friends even said it was not you?
After Hilman threatened me, I was very afraid. That is why I looked cold in the video.
Maybe, I also looked cold because the chair was big that I rested my arms on the sides and that’s why I looked awkward. But it is me. Even MCMC told me at first, they thought it was fake. Then they told me after they did their forensic analysis that they found my (confession) video was not fake but real.
Why, in your confession video, did you ask MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) to investigate Azmin?
Because there are allegations of his corruption together with the viral sex clips. Don’t get me wrong – I was not saying the homosexual act is an act of corruption. That was not what I meant at the end of my confession video. Some members of the LGBTQ community felt offended because they thought I related homosexual act with corruption.
Aren’t you afraid that you will go to jail because of your honesty?
Of course, I’m afraid. But it is an act of sukarela (consensual). I mean there is no victim in this case. I mean those who took the video, they should punish the perpetrator. But consensual between two adults, I think, it’s not a crime.
But as a lawyer, you know that homosexual and oral sex is a crime. Aren’t you worried that you broke the law?
Of course, yes. I thought about that. But I had no choice. My safety and my life are quite important.
What do you think the public would think when they watch the sex video? What feedback did you get? Honestly, I have not read anything posted online. Because if there are negative comments, I don’t want to become stressed.
Why was there a video recording device in the room (at Four Points Sandakan)?
I am not sure because I felt that Azmin was the one who took the video for his own personal collection without my permission. That is why I was so mad.
How’s your life been in the last few days?
I don’t have my phone now. I have thrown it as I am afraid that someone will track me and kill me. I am very paranoid now.
So, I just stay in the house and watch TV and read books. Right now, I’m reading Francis Fukuyama’s Identity: The Demand for Dignity and the Politics of Resentment and watching Netflix’s Peaky Blinders (a TV drama on a notorious gang in 1919 Birmingham, England).
What’s next for you?
Right now, I don’t have a plan. But I can always go back to law practice in Kuching.
When was the first time you met Azmin? It was when I helped his campaign team in the PKR elections in 2014. Azmin was defending his deputy president’s post against Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim. After Azmin won and became Mentri Besar, I helped him professionally at first and then our relationship started to be lebih rapat (intimate).
What was your impression of him?
At that time, he was not very popular. If you remember people chopped him as having Umno DNA. We were against the norm by supporting Azmin. But we believed in his leadership and talent.
But what was your personal impression of him?
He was a very charming guy and very interesting.
How did it happen? Did you fall in love with him?
At first, we communicated using BBM (BlackBerry Messenger) because it was safer and more secure. We talked about party elections as I needed to report to him on what happened on the ground. But after the polls was over, we talked about casual things. And then I started to feel that he was homosexual when he gave hints. This was in 2016 when he was already Selangor Mentri Besar.
Are you gay or bisexual?
Ah ... Ah ... I don’t want to answer this question.
Did you ever have a girlfriend?
Yeah.
Why did people say that the lovemaking in the video was not passionate? Because Azmin is the type of man who likes to be served – he’s the master. I guess that is his fetish. He is a political master; he is someone powerful – so he wants the guy to do it to him.
Why was there no reaction on his face? He is always like that. He is pretentious.
Are you with Pakatan Harapan or with Barisan Nasional?
Let me clear this. I joined the Perdana Fellowship programme as an intern to Nancy Shukri. (Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, who was a Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department during the Barisan Nasional administration). Deep in my heart, I am still a PKR member. In fact, I never joined any of the BN component parties. About the allegations that I was planted by BN to do all this, if I am a BN Trojan horse, I would have lodged a police report right after we had sex at Four Points Sandakan or Hyatt Regency KL or during the 2018 PKR polls when I met Azmin at Pullman Kuching.
Is this sex video about the fight for the Prime Minister’s post?
I never thought about that. I don’t see how it can give any advantage to whoever aspires to be the next Prime Minister.
Who do you think would be the next PM?
Ok, who do I think or who do I want? Of course, I want ... . But if I say it, the public will say that – the person who I want to be PM – is behind all this.
Who do you think is behind this sex video?
I don’t have any idea. Even the police still have not come up with any conclusion.
Will the sex video split PKR?
Of course, in a way it will. In fact, PKR is divided now between two factions.

KUALA LUMPUR: It is likely to be the end of the road for the “Amy Keju” robbery gang, which is in Bukit Aman’s “most wanted” list.
Police arrested its leader, a 32-year-old who goes by the moniker “Amy Keju”, at an entertainment outlet in Sungai Besi on Sunday.
The gang was believed to have been responsible for a slew of robberies in the Klang Valley, including a recent incident at a jewellery store in Rawang.
The gang, active since at least 2016, was commonly identified by the use of motorcycles during the robberies.

“We have been monitoring this gang for quite some time.
“They have been involved in several cases of interest and we know their involvement in three jewellery store robberies and a security van in Selangor.
“The gang leader has quite a record as he has been charged in court previously, but did not attend his hearings.
“The gang is among the top listed by us. We consider it to be an organised crime group,” he told a press conference in Bukit Aman yesterday.
Comm Huzir said the gang members were recruited from released prisoners that the gang leader had met during a previous stint in prison, as well as from a juvenile boys home that he was formerly placed in.
In other developments, he said police were ramping up the fight against vice, illegal gambling and secret societies.
“From June 19, police raided 926 illegal gambling outlets, and also arrested 1,462 suspects,” he said.
He said police would work with local telcos to combat online gambling.
Locally based but foreign-operated gambling “call centres” were also being monitored, he added.
“From the end of 2018 till now, there have been 75 raids, resulting in 1,228 arrests.
“These gambling outlets also utilised e-Wallets.
“The police will monitor these with Bank Negara,” he said.
Prostitution rings would be the next main target, with the police already identifying 55 syndicates active in Malaysia, he added.
