KUALA LUMPUR, March 30 (Bernama) -- The government has set a minimum insurance coverage (for COVID-19 and travelling) of US$20,000 for travellers arriving in Malaysia, in line with the country’s border reopening on April 1.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said this applied to all foreigners entering Malaysia using short-term social visit passes, irrespective of their COVID-19 vaccination status.

 “The insurance protection, among others, is to cover the quarantine, treatment and hospitalisation costs, in case they are infected with COVID-19 during their stay in Malaysia,” he said in a statement today.

Khairy said that prior to leaving for Malaysia, travellers would be required to comply with one of the stipulated general protocols, namely to declare through the MySejahtera application that they have purchased the insurance coverage policy.

With the Singapore government’s latest ruling on travel insurance as well as on the basis of reciprocal policy, Khairy, however, said the requirement for insurance coverage is exempted for fully-vaccinated travellers.

He said those exempted comprised Singapore or Malaysian citizens; Singaporean or Malaysian permanent residents; and long-term pass holders in Singapore or Malaysia.

“This exemption is applicable to travellers entering Malaysia from Singapore via air, land and sea,” he said.

Meanwhile, Khairy said the responsibility of every individual and the solidarity among communities were crucial aspects of the country’s efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection.

He said although the country would enter the transition to the endemic phase, members of the public are reminded to always use face masks whenever there is a presence of another individual and to always wash their hands with either soap or hand sanitiser.

He also reminded the public to avoid mass gatherings, which can make it difficult to adopt physical distancing, and places with poor ventilation.

KUALA LUMPUR, March 20 (Bernama) -- Individuals who lost their complete vaccination status from April 1 due to not getting their booster shots can still do the same activities as those who are completely vaccinated, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

These activities include dining-in at restaurants, entering shopping malls, workplaces and places of worship.

"As such, premise owners need to ensure that only customers or visitors who have at least completed their primer vaccination shots be allowed to enter their premises,” he said in a statement today

He said, as previously announced, all Sinovac and Sinopharm recipients aged 18 and above as well as primer dose recipients aged 60 and above would lose their complete vaccination status in the MySejahtera app if they failed to get their booster shots.

However, he said the history of the primer vaccinations will still remain on the MySejahtera app.

Khairy said an individual is considered as having completed their primer dose vaccinations when they fulfilled certain criteria, including completing the 14-day waiting period after getting the second shot for two shot vaccines like Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Sinovac

In addition, for single shot vaccines like Johnson & Johnson dan CanSino, the individual must also complete the 14-day waiting period after getting the shot before being allowed to engage in all normal activities.

For foreign travellers entering Malaysia, they need to comply with the set standard operating procedure (SOP), which is only travellers who have completed their vaccinations (Both primer dose vaccinations and booster shot vaccinations) would be permitted to enter premises.

"The announcement of the latest SOP, however, does not mean that Sinovac recipients aged 18 and above and recipients of all vaccinations aged 60 and above do not need their booster shots,” he added.

Khairy said assessment data conducted on all vaccine recipients in Malaysia revealed that the level of protection against COVID-19 infections dropped by 20 per cent for double Pfizer doses and 48 per cent for Sinovac double doses in the period of three to five months after the primer vaccinations.

According to him, booster shots will bring up the levels of antibodies in the body, and reduce the risk of severe symptoms from COVID-19 infections.

"As such, the Health Ministry would like to advise and encourage those who haven’t received their booster shots to get them immediately,” he added.

PUTRAJAYA: The requirement for using the MySejahtera application as a standard operating procedure (SOP) for check-ins may be scrapped.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the decision whether to continue or scrap the check-in via the MySejahtera application would be determined based on the COVID-19 infection trend as well as the mobility data of residents and travellers when the country's borders reopen on April 1.

"A decision on this matter will take almost a month because we need to look at this trend.

"If there are not many changes to the infection trend, we may drop the check-in function," he told reporters after officiating the closing ceremony of the National Integrated Weight Management Programme and World Physical Activity Day 2022 here today.

Khairy said this when asked to comment on a statement by the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) that it was time to scrap the practice of having to scan the MySejahtera application for check-ins as the country transitions into the endemic phase from April 1.

The government had previously dropped the SOP related to temperature checks and manual recording of personal particulars for entry into premises on Feb 11.

On the issue of the MySejahtera application ownership, Khairy said the Ministry of Health (MOH) expects to finalise negotiations with the company that operates the application software platform in about a month's time.

"The negotiation process is going on. But it is taking some time because it is quite technical," he said, adding that he would provide an explanation on the matter at the Dewan Negara tomorrow.

The negotiations are being held after the MOH set up a price negotiation committee last year aimed as negotiating the procurement price and management of MySejahtera application services with the company for a period of two years, in line with the government's procurement procedures, he said.

He said the procurement had been agreed upon by the Ministry of Finance on Feb 28 and now the negotiation process has started to ensure due diligence is carried out as well as to protect the government's interests.

Khairy had earlier stressed that the government never sold the MySejahtera application to any private company and it is owned by the government.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Home Ministry today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU) and eight contracts with local companies, worth RM2.596 billion.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said the signing of the MoU and contracts showed the government's commitment to placing national security as its main agenda.

"This is especially in procurement planning, to ensure that the country's security assets are always in a high level of readiness. It proves that the government has always given priority to internal security.

"Once a plan is completed, we (Home Ministry) will issue the contract and sign (MoU). It is proof that we are not just talking about planning, but we are appointing contractors to continue our agenda," he said.

He told reporters after witnessing the signing ceremony of the MoU and the contracts, held in conjunction with the Defence Services Asia (DSA) and National Security Asia (NATSEC) 2022 exhibitions, here today.

The MoU and contracts were signed between Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz, representing the ministry and MAMPU director-general Datuk Seri Dr Yusof Ismail, as well as representatives of local companies.

Hamzah explained out of the eight contracts, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) received three contracts worth RM249 million, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) one contract worth RM124 million and the Immigration Department received four contracts worth RM2.22 billion.

According to him, among the high-impact contracts are the procurement of X-Band Satellite Equipment for PDRM, the Sea Surveillance System (SWASLA) upgrading project for MMEA and the National Integrated Immigration System (NIISe) project for the Immigration Department.

Hamzah said the signing ceremony of the MoU and the contracts also demonstrated the government's commitment to ensure national security was protected from all threats by prioritising the acquisition of strategic assets.

"It also supports the DSA and NATSEC Asia 2022 exhibitions' theme, 'Advancing into a New Era of Defence and Security," he said.

Court: Ex-Auditor General 'shocked' on orders to amend, destroy original copy of 1MDB report

KUALA LUMPUR: Former auditor-general Tan Sri Dr Madinah Mohamad told the High Court here that she was 'shocked' upon learning that her predecessor Tan Sri Ambrin Buang and National Audit Department (NAD) officer Datuk Nor Salwani Muhammad were ordered to amend and destroy the original copy of the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) Audit Report.

Madinah, 66, said Nor Salwani (who is now the deputy auditor-general of NAD) had informed her of the matter before she went into a meeting room to be briefed about the amended copy

I was shocked that Ambrin was instructed to amend the original copy and Nor Salwani was instructed to destroy the copies meant to be tabled to the PAC (Public Accounts Committee in 2016). However, she (Nor Salwani) did not destroy the original version of the report. She kept the original version under her chair," she said.

The 12th prosecution witness said this when cross-examined by Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's lead counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah in the trial of the former premier and former 1MDB chief executive officer Arul Kanda Kandasamy for alleged tampering of the 1MDB final audit report

Muhammad Shafee: Tan Sri, you said, you were shocked, but you did nothing on the matter until the new government (Pakatan Harapan) came in? Madinah replied "correct".

When queried who was the culprit behind this amendment, the 12th prosecution witness answered that she did not ask Nor Salwani about it as she was rushing to the meeting.

The witness also admitted that during the one year and four months she had served under Najib's administration, she did not try to seek clarification from Najib about the issue as it was not necessary for her to do so.

To another question, Madinah admitted that a wrong was committed through the instructions to amend and destroy the original 1MDB audit report.

Muhammad Shafee: Wrong along the lines of criminality, somebody "fixing" (manipulating) the report. A criminal act?

Madinah: I just knew it was wrong for Ambrin to be pressured to amend what had been a finalised copy of the auditor-general's report, and for Nor Salwani to be instructed to destroy all the original reports.

To another question, the witness denied that she met Najib to be appointed as auditor-general in early 2016, while also denying that she relied on lobbying by her late husband - then UMNO deputy permanent chairman Datuk Seri Rizuan Abdul Hamid - to be appointed as the auditor-general.

Muhammad Shafee: Are you aware that your late husband lobbied for you to be auditor-general?

Madinah: When this conservation was brought up with my husband, I had told him that under no circumstances should he interfere in any way, especially when I was secretary-general in two ministries Education and MOSTI. He was a businessperson, he was not to attempt to conduct business with these two ministries and not to lobby for anything from the PM, because if I was to be appointed, it had to be on my own merits and he understood that.

Najib, 68, is charged with using his position to order amendments to the 1MDB final audit report before it was presented to the Public Accounts Committee to avoid any action being taken against him, while Arul Kanda, 45, is charged with abetting Najib in making the amendments to the report, to protect Najib from being subjected to action.

The offences were allegedly committed at the Prime Minister's Department Complex, Federal Government Administrative Centre, Federal Territory of Putrajaya between Feb 22 and 26, 2016.

Both of them were charged under Section 23(1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, which provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine of no less than five times the amount of gratification or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.

The trial before Judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan continues.

Court orders Kayveas to surrender 100,000 shares in Bintang Iradat, Wisma MYPPP to Director General of Insolvency

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court today ordered former MyPPP president Tan Sri M. Kayveas and his company, Kayveas Holdings Sdn Bhd, to hand over 100,000 units of their shares in Bintang Iradat (M) Sdn Bhd and Wisma MyPPP in Jalan Kampung Attap here, to the Director General of Insolvency (KPI).

Bintang Iradat is a company formed as the investment and corporatwe entity acting on behalf of MyPPP.

Lawyer Gavin Jay Anand Jayapal, representing 12 former MyPPP members as plaintiffs, said the order was made by Judicial Commissioner Ong Chee Kwan after allowing part of his clients' suit against Kayveas, six other individuals, two companies, including Kayveas Holdings, and KPI for allegedly transferring the building ownership without consent.

KPI, which was appointed to administer MyPPP's assets following the party's deregistration on Jan 14, 2019, was sued in its nominal capacity

"The court ruled that the consent order obtained by Datuk A. Chandrakumanan (fourth defendant) and Datuk Ly Kim Cheong (fifth defendant) was set aside.

"The court also ordered a permanent injunction to be entered to prevent Kayveas, Kayveas Holdings, Chandrakumanan, Ly, and their agents from transferring the shares in Bintang Iradat and Wisma MyPPP, as well as ordered the (Wisma MyPPP) building to be vacated and handed over to the Director General of Insolvency," said the lawyer.

Gavin said the court also ordered Kayveas, Chandrakumanan and Ly to pay legal costs of RM300,000 and for each of them to pay RM150,000 to KPI.

He told this to reporters after proceeding of the case which was also attended by lawyers Ashraf Appoo, representing the first to the eighth defendant, and Datin Carolyn Cheah, who represented Datuk Lau Beng Wei, as well as federal counsel Siti Nasuha Abdul Halim, who appeared on behalf of KPI.

The 12 former MyPPP members, including Datuk Seri Maglin Dennis D'Cruz, filed the suit in 2019 and named Kayveas, Kayveas Holdings, Bintang Iradat, Chandrakumanan, Ly, S. Vijayan, Shanker Kandaswamy, A. Kumara Raja, Lau and KPI as defendants.

According to the statement of claim, the plaintiffs stated that after MyPPP was deregistered, all assets belonging to the party were vested under KPI in accordance with Section 17 of the Societies Act 1966.

The plaintiffs claimed that in November 2018 and prior to the deregistration of the party, an illegal conspiracy was formed between Kayveas and other parties, which among others, aimed to cause loss, harm and damage to the MyPPP members who are entitled to to the assets.

They claimed that Chandrakumanan and Ly deliberately entered into a consent judgment, dated Jan 16, 2019, over transfer of shares that was recorded before High Court Judicial Commissioner Darryl Goon Siew Chye, despite knowing that MyPPP was deregistered two days earlier.

As such, they sought an order for the consent judgment to be set aside, a declaration that 100,000 shares in Bintang Iradat and Wisma MyPPP belonged to MyPPP and the assets vested under the authority of KPI following the party's registration.

The plaintiff also applied for a permanent injunction to be granted to prevent Kayveas and his agents from transferring the shares in Bintang Iradat and Wisma MyPPP , as well as for the wisma building to be vacated and handed over to KPI.

SINGAPORE: IN every country, face masks are now a mandatory accessory to wear when going out; lipstick, compact powder and blush are no longer an option.

"Can not believe it." "Freedom." "Two years of wearing a face mask is a pretty long time."

That was part of the reaction of Singaporeans after the mandate to wear face masks was no longer mandatory.

Today, Singapore began easing the COVID-19 SOP in the Republic, apart from not having to wear a face mask outdoors, social events can also be attended by 10 people.

Sam Lee, 28 and Winnie Fok, 26, were among those who voiced their joy as they visited the Mandarin Gallery on Orchard Road.

"Finally, my face was greeted by the wind," he said, during an interview with CNA.

“At first, I felt very awkward. We just took the wind, there were still others wearing face masks, so at first, we thought we saw the wrong date, ”he said.

According to Fok, there are a handful of Singaporeans who are still taking "precautionary" measures.

Surveys at Ang Mo Kio Central and in the Chong Boon Market and Food Center area found that visitors only opened their face masks when eating and drinking.

Wesley, who is a financial advisor, said he did not cover his face because the weather was so hot.

"I don't want to sweat in my face mask," he said.

Singapore loosens SOP COVID-19: Here's what you need to know

1. A crowd can reach 10 out of five people, at any time

2. Face masks are not required outdoors, although the Government encourages their use

Face masks are still mandatory. According to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, safe social incarceration with a 1-meter distance still needs to be practiced to prevent infection.

Covered areas include places with entrances and exits such as offices, shopping complexes, public transportation, hawker centers and coffee shops.

3. Eating activities

Dining activities at restaurants, coffee shops and hawker centers and coffee shops were allowed for 10 vaccinated individuals. Precautionary measures should be clearly displayed at the entrance.

However, restaurant and eatery operators can allow small groups divided into five individuals who have been vaccinated, without the need for a vaccine check at the store entrance. Random inspections by the enforcement authorities were also carried out.

The implementation of liquor sales at 10.30pm will also be abolished.

4. 75 percent of the workforce can return to work in the office

This is an increase of 50 per cent of the workforce employed in the office.

5. Increased capacity of attendees for the organization of events

Organizers can put capacity - for 1,000 attendees to 75 percent. For events with an attendance capacity of under 1,000 people, the event can continue with no capacity limit.

6. Live performances and singing are allowed

Live performances and singing are allowed including in eateries. Outdoor performances and busking are also allowed. Choir activities involving spectators are allowed - the wearing of face masks is necessary during the activity.

7. Social events are allowed

Large -capacity social activities such as dinners, corporate and birthday and anniversary celebrations are allowed.

However, only 10 individuals were allowed to sit at one table with imprisonment between each table.

8. A second vaccine for at -risk groups

The second vaccine shot is recommended for high -risk groups including those aged 80 and over and nursing home residents and groups with serious illnesses.

9. Children with COVID-19 are allowed to stay at home

Children are between two and 12 years old (will be monitored under Protocol 2 starting March 25) and can be at home or under the care of a doctor.

KUALA LUMPUR: The government today agreed to give toll exemption at toll plazas at the Malaysia-Singapore entrance for seven days starting April 1.

The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri said the toll exemption involved all types of vehicles passing through the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Complex at the Sultan Iskandar Building (Johor Causeway) and Tanjung Kupang (Linkedua Highway).

"It is in line with the approach to facilitate cross -border travel with Singapore. The exception is for Malaysians and consumers to top up or renew 'Touch and Go' and 'Smart Tag'.

 
“The granting of this toll exemption involves travel in and out through the two toll plazas involved during the period.

"This decision also takes into account the closure of the Malaysia-Singapore border over the past two years and to ensure smooth traffic at the two toll plazas with the opening of the land border," he said in a statement today.

He added that the exemption was in addition to the Road Charge (CJ) exemption imposed on Singapore-registered private vehicles when entering Malaysia by land at both locations.

He explained that PLUS also estimates that at least 42,000 vehicles will enter Malaysia through the Johor Causeway and Linkedua every day where the toll relief will benefit more than 300,000 Malaysia-Singapore cross-border journeys for vehicle owners.

"Therefore, PLUS in collaboration with the Johor State Government as well as the relevant ministries and agencies are also actively making final preparations to ensure a smooth journey on the highway in conjunction with the reopening.

"It also includes preparations at toll plazas, rest areas and all public facilities provided on the PLUS Highway," he said.

Therefore, he said, the government welcomed the return of Malaysians in Singapore and the arrival of Singaporeans to Malaysia with the reopening of the country's borders.

KUALA LUMPUR : Video tular membabitkan seorang pensyarah yang didakwa memarahi seorang pelajar gara-gara tidak mempunyai komputer riba bukanlah insiden baru.


Naib Canselor Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Prof Datuk Dr Roziah Mohd Janor berkata, pihaknya difahamkan ia merupakan kejadian yang berlaku pada semester lalu



“Saya difahamkan bahawa perkara tersebut berlaku semester lepas dan bukannya semalam jadi maknanya isu ini mesti ada perancangan mengapa ia dimuat naik semalam (Selasa).

“Apa pun kami dah ambil tindakan dan insya-Allah kita sentiasa ingin berikan yang terbaik buat semua pelajar,” katanya ketika ditemui media pada Rabu.

Dalam pada itu, Dr Roziah turut mengesahkan pensyarah yang terlibat merupakan lantikan kontrak UiTM yang mengajar pada semester tersebut dan ketika ini masih mengajar di UiTM Seri Iskandar, Perak.

Pada Rabu, tular mengenai sebuah video yang menyaksikan seorang pensyarah dipercayai daripada UiTM yang memarahi seorang pelajar berikutan tidak memiliki komputer riba sewaktu mengikuti sesi pengajian secara atas talian.

Tindakan itu telah mengundang kecaman orang ramai yang tidak bersetuju dengan cara tersebut malah dikatakan telah memperlekehkan golongan B40.

Dozens of lasers were aimed at Mohamed Salah before the  Egypt forward skied his penalty in the crucial World Cup qualifying shootout defeat to Senegal.

In a repeat of the Africa Cup of Nations final earlier this year, Senegal sealed a shootout victory over Egypt – this time to reach the 2022 World Cup.

The tie had finished 1-1 on aggregate, with the second leg on Tuesday night taking place in Senegal, where home supporters were seen directing lasers at Egypt players throughout the match.

And with the stakes at their highest, and a World Cup place on the line, Salah was showered with lasers when taking Egypt’s first penalty in the shootout.

The Liverpool forward blazed his penalty over when looking to put one past Edouard Mendy, although the miss did not prove too crucial initially given the first four spot-kicks failed to find the net.

However, Senegal soon seized the advantage, with Sadio Mane once more the hero, sealing a 3-1 shootout win less than two months after he scored the winner in the AFCON final.

Ghana also booked their place in Qatar as they edged past Nigeria on away goals thanks to Thomas Partey's early strike. They were later joined by Morocco and Tunisia, with Cameroon then taking Africa's fifth and final spot following a dramatic goal against Algeria right at the end of extra-time.

A Bruno Fernandes double gave Portugal a 2-0 win over North Macedonia to send them to the Qatar World Cup.

North Macedonia were hoping to build on their shock upset win over Italy last week, while Portugal found themselves one game away from the Qatar World Cup after beating Turkey in their first playoff tie.

Cristiano Ronaldo was named in the starting line-up and it was his excellent link-up play with Manchester United teammate Bruno Fernandes which allowed the playmaker to whip the ball past Stole Dimitrievski midway through the first half, and Diogo Jota came close to making it two.

In the second half, Fernandes had a chance to double his tally and his side’s lead but sent in a weak shot, but was instrumental to a counterattack that he finished on 65 minutes to make it two.

Tempers briefly threatened to boil over when a spat between Jota and Ezgjan Alioski kickstarted a few minutes of petulance from both sets of players, but Macedonia did not have time to waste if they wanted to chase the game.

With the game slowing down as the visitors became aware they were beaten, the home crowd were able to celebrate their country’s success and turn their attention to Qatar.

TALKING POINT - PORTUGAL HAD TOO MUCH EXPERIENCE

Pepe at the back, Bruno Fernandes, Joao Moutinho, and Bernardo Silva in midfield, and Cristiano Ronaldo in attack. They are not short of talent or youth elsewhere on the pitch but their spine has been through almost everything.

Portugal let themselves down a little to have to endure the playoff process but in Turkey and then North Macedonia they beat two difficult teams and did so with relatively little trouble.

They are not dark horses in the World Cup - nobody expects them to win it, even as a long shot, but they are going to cause plenty of more established teams problems if they can put a decent run together in October.

The Manchester United man often fades out of games, and sometimes weeks, but he reliably contributes with assists and goals. He demonstrated an understanding of his teammate Ronaldo with the opener, but also was alive to intercept the pass to start the move. For the second he showed his determination to launch and round off a counterattack in a way that went unmatched by others.

 Prasarana Malaysia Bhd is investigating a viral video showing a man dressed in the company uniform assaulting a member of the public at a convenience store

The incident is believed to have occurred when the victim was caught red-handed taking food without paying at the convenience store,” Prasarana said in a statement.

“However, the behaviour of the man in the red uniform is against Prasarana’s code of conduct.  the matter should be brought up to the relevant authorities.”

An internal investigation has been launched and Prasarana calls on the public who witnessed the incident or have more information on the incident to call 03-7885 2585, or email to suggest@rapidkl.com.my.

Prasarana also apologized for this incident and guarantees that appropriate follow -up action will be taken to ensure that such things will not happen again in the future.

Covid-19 Malaysia: 15,215 New Cases and 64 New Deaths (14 BID) Recorded on 29 March.

 

KKM recorded 15,215 New Cases comprising 14,965 local cases & 250 imported cases and 64 New Deaths (14 BID) on 29 March, 

This bring the total number of Covid-19 cases to 4,167,418 and the total number of deaths to 34,906.

Perak recorded  20 Deaths, followed by Kedah (8), Selangor (7), Penang (6), Johor (5), Sarawak and Negeri Sembilan (4 each), Kelantan (3), Pahang , Sabah and Melaka (2 each) and Terengganu (1)

Currently there are 211,869 active cases after 24,154 recovered yesterday

4,843 have been hospitalized, 282 are in intensive care units (ICU) of which 176 require respiratory assistance.
