17 dead, dozens injured in sightseeing bus crash in Thailand

BANGKOK: Seventeen people were killed and more than 20 injured when a bus carrying a study tour of a township from Bueng Kan Province overturned while descending Phu Thon Hill in Prachinburi, eastern Thailand, early Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred at about 3am (local time) when a bus departing from Phon Charoen District lost control at a bend while on its way to Rayong Province.
According to the Thai Highway Police, preliminary reports confirmed 17 deaths and many injured. "Rescue workers from Yayasan Sajja Kabin Buri have taken the injured to Na Di Hospital and Kabin Buri Hospital for treatment," said a statement from the Highway Police on Wednesday.
Local media reported that three buses moved in convoys on a study tour to Rayong. The bus involved in the crash was an air-conditioned double-decker vehicle and was the third bus in the convoy.
District officer Na Di Somjai Phutthasena, who visited the scene, said authorities were investigating the cause of the accident.
