LONDON: Elon Musk's xAI has unveiled its latest artificial intelligence (AI) model, Grok 3, which is allegedly better than OpenAI's ChatGPT, German news agency dpa reported.
Elon Musk introduced the latest AI, Grok 3, which is claimed to be better than ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and other models.
Grok 3 will be available to Premium subscribers on X and SuperGrok's new subscription.
Musk continued to compete with OpenAI, including suing and trying to buy the company, but his offer was rejected.
Musk described Grok 3 as "the smartest AI in the world", and the company claims it performed better in benchmark tests for science, math and coding than ChatGPT, in addition to Google Gemini, DeepSeek and Anthropic's Claude. In the live broadcast of the launch of the new model, the SpaceX and Tesla CEO said that the Grok 3 has more than 10 times the processing power of the previous model.
The AI startup confirmed that Grok 3 will be available to Premium+ subscribers on X - a social media platform that Musk also owns - as well as being part of a new subscription known as SuperGrok, which offers access through Grok's mobile app and website.
Musk's claim that Grok is capable of surpassing ChatGPT - which has not been independently verified - further heats up his competition with OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman.
Musk has previously filed two lawsuits against OpenAI, claiming the company deviated from its original principles as a non-profit organization. Last week, he also made an offer to buy the company for US$97.4 billion, but was rejected by Altman and the OpenAI Board of Directors.
Musk, who was the co-founder of OpenAI but left the company in 2018, has been increasingly vocal in criticizing the firm and its leadership.
Altman rejected Musk's offer, describing it as a tactic to slow down competitors in the field of AI, which is currently dominated by the major US firm. However, the sudden emergence of DeepSeek last month as a cheaper China-based alternative has changed that perception.
However, investor interest in the AI company remains high, with reports suggesting OpenAI is in talks to raise around US$40 billion in a new round of financing that will boost the company's value to about US$300 billion.
Meanwhile, xAI is reportedly in talks to secure financing of around US$10 billion, which is expected to put the company's value at about US$75 billion.
