GEORGE TOWN: The Ministry of Digital is actively working to achieve the government's intention to make Malaysia a leader in the digital economy in the Southeast Asian region.

Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said this includes increasing broadband coverage, empowering digital skills and encouraging innovation in the technology sector.

"I am confident that with the cooperation of all parties, we can achieve this goal and ensure that no one is left out in the digital era. "I also believe that by providing the public with digital knowledge and skills, Malaysians will be more competitive in the growing digital economy," he said in his speech during a visit to the Arulmigu Balathandayuthapani Temple in conjunction with Thaipusam here today.

Also present were Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, Human Resources Minister Steven Sim and DAP veteran Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang.

Meanwhile, Gobind said the unity and spirit of goodwill highlighted by the pluralistic society is one of the specialties and a recipe in maintaining harmony in the country, thus ensuring the socio-economic progress of all races is preserved.

He said the progress must also go hand in hand with the country's digital development, whether in the artificial intelligence (AI) or animation sectors, and to achieve this, the MADANI government remains committed to ensuring that no one is left behind.

"To fulfil this aspiration, the Ministry of Digital is determined to support and help the Indian community in Malaysia and over the past year, we have extended assistance to Indian temples, associations and Tamil schools across the country.

"This is one of the initiatives of the Digital Ministry in assisting the Indian community in Malaysia, in line with the MADANI government's ongoing commitment to celebrate the diversity and harmony of Malaysians," he said.

Gobind said the assistance would continue this year and the effort was in addition to the initiatives and programmes carried out by agencies under the Ministry of Digital.
