KUALA LUMPUR: The government remains committed to intensifying efforts to strengthen integrity, transparency and good governance following the results of the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) which showed that Malaysia remained ranked 57th for 2024, with a score of 50 points.

The Office of the Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN) said the CPI Special Task Force led by KSN will enhance strategic improvement measures to boost the country's position in the CPI.

"The team consists of senior officials from various ministries, relevant experts, as well as Transparency International Malaysia, with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) as the secretariat," he said in a media statement on Tuesday. In addition, the six CPI Focus Groups set up under the Special Task Force will be tasked with examining more closely the findings from the survey used in the CPI assessment.

The results of the study will be the basis for planning and implementing more effective actions in improving Malaysia's position at the international level.

"The government will continue to make concerted efforts to enhance global perception of the efficiency and transparency of the country's governance system.

"The CPI 2024 results will be used as a baseline in realising Malaysia's target to achieve the world's top 25 position in the CPI by 2033," he added.

Through the CPI 2024 Index, the three 'countries clean from corruption' managed to occupy the top three rankings, namely Denmark, Finland and Singapore with scores of 90 points, 88 points and 84 points respectively.

The CPI uses a scale from 0 (highest corruption rate) to 100 (lowest and net corruption rate).

Malaysia scored 50 points in 2023, 47 in 2022, 48 in 2021, and 51 in 2020.
