The country's squash QUEEN, S. Sivasangari, came from behind to advance to the finals of the PSA Gold World Tour category for the first time in her career by surprising the representative of Belgium, Nele Gilis, in the semi-finals of the London Classic Squash Championship early this morning.
The success also saw Sivasangari become the first Malaysian player to reach the final of the PSA Tour gold level tournament after the last time Datuk Nicol David did it in 2015.
The world number four, Gilis, leads 3-0 in the meeting record with Sivasangari but is clearly wary of the player ranked 16 in the world, especially after Sivasangari knocked out the world number one, Nour El Sherbini, in the quarter-finals.
Sivasangari qualified for the final by recording a 10-12, 11-7, 11-8, 10-12, 11-9 victory after fighting for 94 minutes.
She will next meet Egypt's second seed, Hania El Hammamy, in tonight's championship decider.
Meanwhile, Bernama reported that Sivasangari said that he was satisfied with the game he displayed so that he was able to beat Gilis whom he described as a fighter.
"I won today, I took a positive attitude from yesterday's victory and believed in myself. Gilis is a fighter, he always pressures, challenges the opponent mentally through his punches,"\
