Riders from the Red Bull KTM Ajo Pedro Acosta team compete in Moto2 at the 2023 Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix (GP) at the Petronas Sepang International Circuit today.

Red Bull KTM rider Ajo Pedro Acosta successfully clinched his maiden Moto2 world championship, after finishing the race at the Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix (MotoGP), today.

The rider from Spain, who started from sixth place, managed to improve his position to second place and recorded a time of 36 minutes and 11.506 seconds (s) before doing a 'wheelie' to celebrate the success of becoming the youngest world moto2 champion, when crossing the finish line at the International Circuit Sepang (SIC).

The 19-year-old finished the race 7.128s behind 2023 Malaysian GP champion Fermin Aldeguer of the Beta Tools SpeedUp team.

Aldeguer, who started the race from the front row, remained in that position until the end of the race and it was his second victory in a row after winning the Thai GP, last month.

Another Spaniard Marcos Ramirez of the OnlyFans American Racing team was third (36:13.936s).

Speaking after the race, Acosta expressed his joy at being crowned Moto2 world champion and his satisfaction at winning the title, despite the difficulties he faced earlier.

With two laps to go, Acosta with 320.5 points has a 77-point advantage over nearest competitor Tony Arbolino of the ELF Marc VDS Racing team, who has amassed 243.5 points.

Meanwhile, two local riders representing the Petronas MIE Racing team RW Azroy Hakeem Anuar and Helmi Azman, failed to record good results today.

Azroy Hakeem failed to finish the race after falling for the second time, while Helmi finished the race in third last place (23rd place) with 37:14.318s.
