PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia will grant a 30-day visa exemption to Chinese and Indian tourists.

The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said, however, it is subject to security screening of tourists from the countries involved who want to enter the country.

"Today, I announce next year (in conjunction with) 50 years of diplomatic relations with China, to celebrate this spirit, starting this December 1. We (already) granted (visa exemptions for tourists) from Arab countries, Turkey and Jordan (previously) ... Facilities (also given) to Chinese and Indian citizens... visa exemption for 30 days," he said.

He said this when delivering the closing speech in conjunction with the PKR 2023 congress here, on Sunday.

Gulf countries such as Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Iraq and Iran as well as all West Asian countries including Turkey and Jordan currently enjoy visa exemption facilities.

This visa-free entry facility to Malaysia is also enjoyed by eight other ASEAN countries that allow visits for social, tourism and business purposes for up to 30 days.

In the meantime, Anwar also informed that China has also granted a visa exemption for 15 days to Malaysia.

"We should not deride international and bilateral relations as the opposition has done because they themselves cannot make this progress.

"This is significant about the improved relationship which is called a strategic partnership so they (China) welcome it by providing facilities for Malaysians to visit China without a visa for 15 days," he said.

Commenting further, Anwar also touched on the good relationship between Malaysia and the United States, which assured that it would continue to invest.

However, Anwar insisted, that matter is not a reason for Malaysia to control any decision made.

"We are an independent, independent country and consider our neighboring countries (we are) ASEAN, Japan, Korea, India, and China. We have and will increase what is called a strategic partnership ," he said.
