KUALA LUMPUR: Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak denied all allegations from his former bodyguard Sirul Umar Azhar , in an interview broadcast on Al Jazeera's 101 East program regarding the murder of Altantuya Shaaribuu in 2006.
"To support this effort, our client suggested to the Malaysian Government the possibility of offering a guarantee not to impose the death penalty in order to facilitate the objective of justice and truth widely.
Our client (Najib) defends all legal rights and remedies in this matter against Sirul, Al Jazeera and its journalist Mary Ann Jolley, he remains steadfast in denying any involvement in the tragic death of Altantuya Shaaribuu through such a brutal crime," he said.
We want to emphasize that our client (Najib) has been definitively released from any involvement in this case and this has been confirmed by the relevant authorities, including the re-investigation after the 14th General Election and confirmed by the High Court, the Court of Appeal and through a substantive appeal in The Federal Court heard it comprehensively on the merits, the law firm said.
Shafee and Co also emphasized that both Sirul and Azilah Hadri were never personal bodyguards for Najib and came from a group of bodyguards who were rotated between top leaders in the current cabinet.
