The results that was announced by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Datuk Johari Abdul saw Ramli get 148 votes, while Alice got 146 votes.
Meanwhile, another candidate, Masjid Tanah Member of Parliament Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin who represents the opposition bloc obtained 74 votes.

Before that, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim proposed Ramli from Barisan Nasional (BN) and Alice from DAP as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and was supported by Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
Meanwhile, Kota Bharu Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan suggested that the position be filled by Mas Ermieyati, who is also a former Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Parliament and Law) to represent the opposition bloc.
The motion was supported by Kuala Terengganu Member of Parliament, Datuk Ahmad Amzad Mohamed (PN-Pas).
At the previous conference, the position of Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives was held by Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon and Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.
