SINGAPORE, July 22 --The Singapore National Day Parade (NDP) 2021 originally planned on Aug 9 will be postponed to Aug 21, after the scheduled end of Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) safe management measures, according to the republic’s Ministry of Defence (MINDEF).

On Aug 9, a ceremonial parade will be held instead, said the ministry in a statement today.

Since 1966, MINDEF said the NDP has been held every year to mark Singapore’s independence.

“The changes this year will enable NDP 2021 to be held in safer conditions, while maintaining that cherished tradition,” it said.

Starting today, Singapore reverts to Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) of reopening of its economic and social activities due to an increase in COVID-19 cases.

It will end on Aug 18.

In a separate statement, the Singapore Prime Minister’s Office said since the NDP has been postponed to Aug 21, the National Day Rally (NDR) will now be held on Aug 29.

The first NDR was held in 1966, a year after independence.
