COVID-19: Indonesia allows resumption of small businesses, dine-ins

JAKARTA: Indonesia has allowed certain socio-economic activities to resume although public activity restrictions (PPKM) have been extended due to COVID-19 deaths going beyond 1,000 people.
From today, the Indonesia government permitted markets, small businesses, vehicle workshops, hair saloons to operate till 9pm with strict observation of health protocols, and the public is allowed a 20-minute duration for dine-ins at roadside stalls and restaurants.
"Considering the health aspects, economic aspects and social dynamics, I decided to extend the implementation of PPKM from July 26 to August 2, 2021," said President Joko Widodo in a post via the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel.
Previously, PPKM Darurat was implemented from July 3 till July 25, where limitations on socio-economic activities were more rigorous.
According to data by the National Disaster Mitigation Agency via its Twitter account @BNPB_Indonesia today, there were 1,266 deaths recorded, increasing the total number of deaths due to the virus now to 83,279 people.
The overall positive cases in the republic now exceeded 3.1 million cases, with 573,908 active cases.
