KUALA LUMPUR, September 17 -- A man was arrested for alleged car theft just days after he was released from prison for a similar offence.

Brickfields district police chief ACP Zairulnizam Mohd Zainuddin @ Hilmi in a statement today, said that the suspect had three previous records for vehicle theft and was released from prison after serving his previous sentence.

He said the suspect was arrested during an inspection at a workshop at Old Klang Road at 12.30 pm on Sept 15.

"Police received a report in which the complainant said his car which was left parked near a bank in Old Klang Road since Aug 2019 was missing,

"Acting on information, we conducted an inspection at a car workshop in the same area and arrested the suspect after finding a car engine registered to the reported missing vehicle and three motorcycle engines with their engine numbers tampered at the premises," he said, adding that the parts were seized for further investigations.

Zairul said the suspect is currently on remand until Sept 18 to facilitate investigations under Section 379A of the Penal Code for vehicle theft.
