Oil tanker driver burnt to death after three-vehicle collision on NSE (Updated)

IPOH : An accident involving three heavy vehicles resulted in two of the vehicles bursting into flames, killing the driver of an oil tanker on the spot near Slim River.
Muallim OCPD Supt Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof said the incident occurred at KM372 of the North-South Expressway at about 9am.
He said the driver of the tanker transporting diesel was burnt to death during the accident.
The man's identity is yet to be revealed. He is believed to have been working for a company located in Sungai Buloh.
Supt Wan Kamarul Azran said the accident involved the tanker, a trailer and a lorry.
He said initial investigations showed that a 45-year-old trailer driver, who was transporting iron and heading north, stopped his vehicle at the emergency lane after encountering problems with the brakes.
Supt Wan Kamarul Azran added that the lorry driver, who was from the same company transporting iron as well, stopped to help the trailer driver.
"After finishing with the checks, as the 34-year-old driver got back into his lorry to continue his journey when he saw a tanker in the middle lane heading towards his lorry.
"The tanker hit the back of the lorry, which caused the lorry to hit the back of the trailer parked in front.
"The impact of the crash caused the tanker and the lorry to burst into flames and killing the tanker driver," he said.
Both the lorry and trailer drivers escaped unhurt.
The accident caused a traffic jam that stretched for about 4km as firemen had to cordon off the area to put out the fire, he added.
