Sarawakian Soldier Arrested After Printing RM4,000 Counterfeit Money For His Wedding

A soldier was arrested yesterday, 17 February, for printing RM4,000 worth of counterfeit notes in Sibu, Sarawak
According to theSun, Sibu District Police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said that the suspect was believed to have committed the crime using a printer in his office earlier this month.
New Sarawak Tribune reported that the 28-year-old suspect had been a soldier for seven years.

The 28-year-old reportedly gave the RM4,000 to his fiancée to fund their wedding, which was scheduled for the end of March
Suspecting that something was wrong with the cash, the man's fiancée advised him to lodge a police report.
The 28-year-old then told the police that he had just withdrawn the cash from an ATM, hoping that his forged notes would be replaced by the bank.
However, the soldier's plan failed upon investigation by the police

Probe into the man's claim showed that while he did withdraw RM4,000 from the bank, the other RM4,000 held by his fiancée were counterfeit money.
Berita Harian reported ACP Stanley as saying that 55 pieces of RM50 and RM100 counterfeit notes were seized by the police. A genuine RM100 note and the printer used by the suspect were also taken away for investigation.
The 28-year-old is being investigated under Section 489 of the Penal Code for possession of counterfeit notes.
