PAS Tries To Cause Chaos Within PH with allegations of possible No Confidence Vote Against PM Tun Mahathir, DAP and PKR Strongly Deny

PAS’ allegation false and defamatory, says Guan Eng

Tuesday, 19 Feb 2019

PETALING JAYA: Lim Guan Eng (pic) has branded PAS’ allegation that two Pakatan parties are pushing for a vote of no confidence against the Prime Minister as “false, defamatory and lies”.

The DAP secretary-general said the coalition fully supports the leadership of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“I would like to emphasise that Pakatan gives full support to the leadership of the Prime Minister and deny all the allegations that assume the opposite,” Lim said.

He said all Pakatan parties support Dr Mahathir and no one would call for a no-confidence vote.

Separately, Sungai Pelek state assemblyman Ronnie Liu said action should be taken against PAS leaders if they were involved in money laundering or corruption.

“I urge Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to uphold the rule of law.

“If PAS leaders had been involved in money laundering or corruption, they have to face the consequences for their own actions,” Liu said.

PKR vice-president Tian Chua meanwhile said there was no reason for Dr Mahathir to seek PAS’ help as Pakatan was committed to supporting his leadership.

“Pakatan members will abide by and stick to our agreement to support his leadership and uphold the coalition’s commitment,” he said.

The former Batu MP also said he saw no threat to oust the Prime Minister.

“Such talk is a sign of bad intention as fingers will be pointed at Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,” he said.

Anwar describes PAS’ allegations of coup as ‘lies’

Tuesday, 19 Feb 2019

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has described PAS’ allegations of a Pakatan Harapan coup against Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as lies.

The PKR president said the Islamist party was trying to deflect attention from the controversy facing the party over the probe by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission into the RM90mil from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) allegedly paid to the party.

Speaking to reporters after giving a talk on education at Universiti Selangor, Anwar said other Pakatan parties had also dismissed the allegation of an impending coup.

“Nobody wants to comment because they think it is a non-issue and a PAS attempt to deflect focus away from 1MDB,” he said

Last Friday, PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and Terengganu Mentri Besar Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar met Dr Mahathir in Kuala Lumpur.

Following the meeting, PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said a draft of a written declaration had been prepared which stated that PAS will support Dr Mahathir until the next general election.

On Sunday, Takiyuddin said Dr Mahathir indicated that he would be betrayed and face a vote of no confidence.

PAS, he added, would support Dr Mahathir in the event this happens.

Anwar, when asked about the pledge, said the letter might not be true.

“They have ruled lying as permissible. As they said, they can lie if need be to save the party, so we don’t know if it is true or not,” he said.

Anwar said that in his interaction with Dr Mahathir, the matter of the alleged coup did not come up.

To a question if he would discuss it with Dr Mahathir, Anwar said he would not as it was a non-issue.

Separately, Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin doubted if a no-confidence vote against the Prime Minister would take place when Dewan Rakyat meets next month.

He said it was PAS’ right to state its support for the Prime Minister, adding that Dr Mahathir himself had raised the possibility of a plot against him.

“If the Prime Minister himself mentions it, then who can deny what he says? The question though is whether there is anyone who will bring up such a no-confidence vote,” said Khaled.

Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said Dr Mahathir’s political manoeuvres were an attempt to create a rift between Umno and PAS.

He urged Umno and PAS members not to lose their focus and to strengthen cooperation, including in the Semenyih by-election.

In Semenyih, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin also dismissed PAS’ claim of a betrayal within Pakatan Harapan as a lie.

While Muhyiddin said he was not privy to the meeting between Dr Mahathir and PAS, he was inclined to believe the Prime Minister over PAS.

“I do not know what transpired in that meeting, as I do not have the privilege to know.

“Dr Mahathir knows and perhaps he will explain further in the near future.

“But what is for certain is that Dr Mahathir’s claim is not something that is made, he is not someone who would do so. So, when Dr Mahathir made the statement, PAS felt trapped, so maybe they decided to lie.

“PAS came up with a statement saying that their level of support towards Barisan in Semenyih will be less than in Cameron Highlands. So what does it mean; they do not support Barisan? Or they support in a tiny way? It is hard to believe liars.

“They would say one thing in London, another thing in Marang; secretary-general says a different thing, Nik Abduh says another; they should just keep to one narrative.

“Hopefully the people will judge PAS’ actions and translate that into votes in this Semenyih by-election,” said Muhyiddin at a press conference in Beranang here.

Dr Mahathir had claimed that PAS stated in a written agreement that it would withdraw its support for Barisan in the Semenyih by-election.

PAS: We’ll back Dr M in no-confidence vote
Tuesday, 19 Feb 2019

Uneasy feeling: The PAS leadership has pledged to support Dr Mahathir and claims that betrayal could come from two component parties within Pakatan, prompting them, including Takiyuddin (left) and Abdul Hadi, to discuss the matter with Dr Mahathir.

SEMENYIH: PAS has pledged to support Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in the event of a betrayal from within Pakatan Harapan as “something is brewing” within the coalition.

PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan claimed that the betrayal could come from “two component parties” within Pakatan but declined to reveal which.

The party, he said, had an inkling that something was brewing within Pakatan, which prompted its leadership to discuss the matter with Dr Mahathir during a meeting in Kuala Lumpur last Friday.

“A draft copy of this undertaking was given to him (Dr Mahathir) during that meeting.

“It states that if anything happens to the PM, we (PAS) undertake to be with him.

“Bear in mind that we are going to sit in Parliament on March 11.

“Dr Mahathir had indicated before about a pengkhianatan (betrayal), and there may be a vote of no confidence against him.

“We are not new in politics. Our president (Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang) sensed something ... that’s why we went to see him (Dr Mahathir),” Takiyuddin told reporters here.

The Friday meeting was between Dr Mahathir, Abdul Hadi, Takiyuddin and Terengganu Mentri Besar Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.

Takiyuddin, however, did not make it clear whether it was PAS or Dr Mahathir who had suggested support for the Prime Minister in case of a no-confidence motion.

“We are political people, so we can sense if something not right might happen within Pakatan. Two parties had been mentioned by him (Dr Mahathir) but I do not want to name them,” said Takiyuddin.

For a vote of confidence to succeed in the Dewan Rakyat, it must have the support of at least 112 out of 222 MPs.

In a party statement released on Sunday, Takiyuddin said a written agreement was drafted to show PAS’ commitment towards Dr Mahathir until the 15th General Election, in the interest of religion, race and country.

Takiyuddin said the meeting also discussed issues pertaining to oil royalties as well as representation for the economic action council in the PAS-led states of Terengganu and Kelantan.

“What was not discussed, however, was the Semenyih by-election. Semenyih was never discussed during the meeting,” he said.

This was in contrast with Dr Mahathir’s claim that the PAS leaders had signed a written agreement that it would withdraw its support for Barisan Nasional in the by-election.

Takiyuddin explained that the scale of PAS support for Barisan in Semenyih would be less than in the Cameron Highlands by-election as it was a state seat as compared to a parliamentary seat.

It would still, however, go all out to ensure Barisan wins in Semenyih, said Takiyuddin.

Separately, Selangor PAS election director Roslan Shahir has questioned whether DAP is behind the plot to oust Dr Mahathir.

Writing in the PAS party organ Harakahdaily under the pen name of Roslan SMS, he urged DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng to deny that DAP and its co-conspirators aimed to topple the Prime Minister via a no-confidence vote in the Dewan Rakyat.

“Mahathir is worried about a conspiracy to topple him as Prime Minister,” the article said.

“Rather than wait on a matter which everyone already knows, it is better that DAP and its partners who want to topple Mahathir through a no-confidence vote deny it.”

The article titled, “Bernarkah DAP mahu jatuhkan Tun M?” (Is it true that DAP wants to topple Tun M?), was published in Harakah’s online portal.
