KLANG: Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad says the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) may not have the full information on 1MDB-linked funds allegedly deposited into PAS bank accounts.

This follows the anti-graft body’s statement yesterday that it had found no evidence so far that RM90 million was transferred into the party’s accounts.

“That is what MACC says,” Mahathir said in a press conference here today.

“They may not have gotten the full information. (To get that), it will take time,” he said when asked whether the development might affect Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) chances in the Semenyih by-election.

Mahathir, who is PH chairman, added that MACC might not have had time to study all the allegations against former prime minister Najib Razak.

“We will wait and see whether it is true or not,” he said.

MACC chief Mohd Shukri Abdull, who made the announcement on the investigation yesterday, had said that the probe was ongoing.

PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan later said this was “confirmation” that the party had been right all along in denying allegations that some RM90 million in funds related to 1MDB were transferred to PAS’ accounts.

When asked to comment on PAS’ apparent flip-flop in support for him, Mahathir said he did not need the support of the Islamist party as PH has more than half the seats in the Dewan Rakyat.

“What I need is the support of the MPs. That accounts for more than 50%,” he said.

“If PAS wants to support, then they should do so. They should not talk about signing letters to support me. They did not even say they want to support PH, just me.

“But I alone am not the government. The government is PH,” he said.
