SEMENYIH: People are praying for Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's good health or else the country will be in chaos, says Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah.

The Gua Musang MP and Umno's Council of Advisors chairman implied that should Dr Mahathir be out of the picture, the country will face big problems from its top leadership.

"Many people pray that he will be healthy. I am not trying to be sarcastic.

"They say if anything happened to him, this country will be chaotic, with the condition that PKR is in and the condition Pakatan Harapan is in," he said at a programme in Bandar Seri Putra on Monday (Feb 25).

He claimed that DAP will be in control of important ministries and that the country will face big problems such as deflation and rising cost of living.

"All these problems we will face, if there is political instability due to unhealthy leadership or leaders who cannot rule in a strong and effective manner," he said.

He said the Pakatan leadership was busy politicking instead of fulfilling their pledges.

Also present at the event were Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa and PAS research director Dr Zuhdi Marzuki.

They were there campaigning for Barisan Nasional candidate Zakaria Hanafi in the Semenyih by-election.

The Semenyih by-election was called after Pakatan assemblyman Bakhtiar Mohd Nor died on Jan 11.

It will see a four-cornered fight between Pakatan's Muhammad Aiman Zainali, Barisan's Zakaria, Parti Sosialis Malaysia's Nik Aziz Afiq Abdul and independent candidate Kuan Chee Heng.

The Election Commission has set Feb 26 for early voting while polling will be held on March 2.
