Viral footage sees man grappling with snatch thief after gold chain stolen

MELAKA: A video of a man grabbing on to a snatch thief at Taman Asean in Malim here has gone viral on social media.

The footage showed the man holding onto the neck of the snatch thief, who was riding a motorcycle, until he managed to overpower him about 500m from where his gold chain, adorned with a pendant, was snatched while he was having drink at a roadside coconut stall with his son on Feb 2.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Afzanizar Ahmad said the incident occurred at about 3.30pm (Feb 2), when the thief filched the chain and attempted to escape on a motorcycle.

He said the man realised that the thief had snatched his chain and attempted to get it back, while the other patrons at the stall were unaware of the commotion.

ACP Afzanizar said the man grabbed the neck of the thief when he attempted to flee and managed to knock the thief off balance about 500m from the stall.

However, he added the thief’s three other accomplices in separate motorcycles helped him to escape with the chain.
