BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police detained a ride-hailing driver and seized ketamine, ecstasy and Eramin 5 pills worth RM5,700 from him at a parking lot near Jalan Bayu Mutiara, here, on Monday.

Seberang Perai Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said a police team was patrolling the area when they spotted the car and decided to check it.

"The 32-year-old man was inside the Kia Optima in the 10pm incident. The team later found 26 packets of ketamine weighing about 50 grammes, 20 ecstasy pills and five Eramin 5 pills in the car.

"All the drugs are worth RM5,700 and we also seized RM9,172 in cash from the man,” he said.

Nik Ros Azhan said checks showed the man was about to distribute the drugs to his buyers.

It was learnt that the man, who obtained the supply from a local syndicate, had been repackaging and selling the items to drug users in Seberang Perai Tengah and Utara over the past few months.

On another matter, Nik Ros Azhan said police have also detained 15 drug addicts, including three women, aged between 17 and 50 years old, in several raids in Machang Bubok and Seberang Jaya. — BERNAMA © New Straits Times Press
