PETALING JAYA: PPBM vice-president Hamidah Osman today became the second prominent member to quit the party today, hours after Anina Saadudin announced she was leaving the party she helped found a year ago.

In a brief statement, PPBM secretary-general Shahruddin Md Salleh thanked Hamidah for her services, saying the party respected her decision.

“PPBM respects her decision and records our deepest appreciation and gratitude for her contributions to PPBM up till now,” Shahruddin said in a statement.

“We pray that Hamidah Osman will continue to prosper and succeed, and continue to support the struggle against falsehood and to uphold the truth,” he added.

Hamidah, a former Perak state executive councillor from Umno, was also the pro-tem committee chief of PPBM’s Gopeng division.

Her resignation today comes three days after her sister Hamizura’s Facebook post sparked condemnation from some party leaders as well as from Pakatan Harapan partners.

On Sept 13, Hamizura wrote on Facebook that in their zeal to topple Barisan Nasional, the Malays should not allow the Chinese to “step” on them as Malaysia belonged to the Malays.

Hamidah has distanced herself from the comments by her sister, who has since apologised.

Earlier today, former Langkawi Umno member Anina announced she was quitting PPBM after claiming she was mistreated by the party.

Among her complaints is that she was removed from the party leaders’ Whatsapp chat group, as well as not being invited to PPBM’s first anniversary celebration last week.

Contacted by FMT, Anina said she had no idea that Hamidah had also resigned today.

“I have no comment,” she said.
