PUTRAJAYA: Newly-appointed Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Datuk Seri Fuzi Harun today pledged his full commitment to addressing various issues of public interest, including deaths in police custody.
He said he would conduct engagements with the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) to address the issue.
"We will look into the recommendations; however, we are also faced with budget constraints, for example, the requirement of having closed circuit television cameras (CCTV) in police lock-ups.
"We are hoping to rectify this in the future," he told reporters after attending the launch of Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre (MaGIC)'s Impact Driven Enterprise Sector (IDEA).
Commenting on the expectations of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and politicians to 'clean up' the force, Fuzi said: "I'm fully aware of the demand and we will definitely do what is necessary to clear up any issues faced by the public. I will be proactive on all issues.
"However I would need some time on this. I will spell out what my priorities are soon," he said.
On the status of the probe into the disappearance of Pastor Raymond Koh, Fuzi said investigations are still ongoing.
Following the footsteps of his predecessor Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, he said he would soon start a Twitter account to share crime happenings in the country.
