Ambulance struck by car, rams into motorcyclist

BUKIT MERTAJAM: A motorcyclist was injured when he was rammed by an ambulance that was hit by a car on Wednesday.

The accident happened at the Song Ban Kheng and Pusat Perniagaan Gemilang traffic light junction here.

Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT) District Police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said the ambulance was heading from the direction of Pusat Perniagaan Gemilang to pick up a patient.

It did not stop for a red light at the junction in the incident at 8.35 am.

“A car responding to a green traffic light failed to brake in time and collided with the ambulance in the middle of the junction. The ambulance belonged to a service company and was on its way to pick up a patient," he added.

ACP Nik Ros said that the ambulance then skidded into the opposing lane and ploughed into a group of motorcyclists waiting at an adjoining red light.

He said a motorcyclist sustained leg injuries and was treated at a private hospital and added that two motorcycles were badly damaged. - Bernama
